GT5 Nürburgring Bench Racing Thread 1.1
Welcome to the Nürburgring Nordschleife Bench Racing Thread powered by DriverSports.org
This thread is shared at the PSN GT Forums
The Nordschleife is the last word in challenging race tracks, and is used by manufacturers and race teams alike to test and measure their cars over the curbs, bumps and jumps that litter the 20832 meters of the Eifel mountain circuit. What used to be an exclusive and elusive circuit mastered by few and feared by many, the proliferation of youtube videos and the inclusion of the track in sim racing games has brought the Green Hell to the forefront of car culture with everyone asking of any thing with wheels "what's the 'Ring time?". Where real drivers are fortunate to do a handful of laps per year, sim racing has allowed drivers the world over to learn the daunting track by completing hundreds or even thousands of laps without risk.
Competing for the fastest Production Street car time at the 'Ring has been a contentious issue between manufactures like Chevy, Porsche and Nissan, aiming for the low 7 minute range, while race cars and tuners like Zonda are in to the 6, 5 and even 4 minute laps. We will lend our considerable driving talent to the process and run unmodified, stock cars, with default settings and the default tires that came on the car.
Race cars also attack the 'ring to put the street car times in perspective, and give us a taste of what could have been. For this thread Race and Tuner cars will be allowed to adjust any parts that are equipped by default. Production based race cars will all be run on Race Hard tires, while Formula and Prototypes will be run on Race Mediums.
Rules
- This thread will operate as a database and competition for Nordschleife lap times.
- All cars are eligible. Cars will be divided in to three groups; Race/tuner cars, production street cars and concept cars. To maintain a level playing field all street and concept cars will remain unmodified and will run on the tires that are equipped from the dealership. Race cars will remain unmodified as well. Production based race cars will run Race Hard tires and Prototypes and Formula cars will run on Racing Medium tires.
- Remove all purchased parts. Irreversible modifications exclude a car from competition (Chassis Reinforcement, Weight Reductions and Engine Tuning Upgrade Stages). You can verify your default parts and stats, including the correct tires, at GTData.net. Any adjustable part equipped by default may be tuned to the driver's liking on any car, in any category.
- Engine break-in and oil change power gains are allowed. Run your car at least 200 miles and change the oil to get the maximum horsepower from your car. A car with more than 6000 miles will suffer permanent wear.
- With a legal car go to GT Life Practice and select the Non-Weather version of the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
- Be sure to turn on tire wear/fuel consumption and set Grip Reduction to 'Real'. ABS is allowed. TCS is not allowed.
- Run your lap, save the ghost replay for verification purposes and post your time in this thread. Feel free to include a photomode pic from your run, a video or just the replay file. Replays may be requested to verify times and clean runs.
- Standard online racing rules apply, drivers must maintain 2 wheels of the same side of the car on or above the white line or curbing that defines the circuit.
Please submit your time in the following format:
07/03/12
Pagani Zonda R '09 - ForgetfuI - 6'34.409
RH Tires, 658PP
Include the date, the full car name, your PSN ID, the full lap time, the tires used and the PP of the car as you ran it.
Entries are open and unlimited. You can run as many cars as you want, whenever you want. If you are updating a previously submitted time, please indicate that your time is meant to replace your old time.

Car-driver-lap time-date-tires-pp for me.
Shared my Integra if anyone wants to try it. I think I'll do my premium cars, as I have about a dozen broken-in ones ... compared to 1400ish standards.

1200x800. with browser maximized, its still cutoff. i can see a column but not the values. it seems the column width for forum posts and anything inside is fixed. it happens with videos too. I cant see the racer list on the right side

no, same thing. what i found i can do (have 4 virtual desktops) is if i stretch my browser about 1/4 way into the second desktop, i can see all the columns. the pics and videos are fine if i do it to them too. at work i have firefox and one desktop. it wont show that pp column at all. but work really doesnt count cause i'm supposed to be working. lol
thank you!

I put links underneath each leaderboard just in case.

Probably a limitation of the resolution you run at. That's about the minimum resolution the forum will fit inside.

finally gave this one a go. that car is a handful at first. once you learn where the powerband is it's not so bad.

Acura NSX '91 - HWKII - 8'54.270
C-s 440PP
This is not a good time, but it was the best clean lap of the 'Ring since my Karting expedition. Karts are way too easy around here since the physics update.
Surprised that this is the first NSX, hoping it will inspire more so I have some rabbits to chase.
Side note, this NSX is a really great car stock on C-s tires, stable but not too stable, and reasonably quick. Pretty good default gearbox too.

Are the RUFs street or tuner cars?
Do they require OEM tires or RH?

That's for putting out a rabbit for me Biker, I am looking forward to tackling the ring again in that beautiful NSX.

That's a good question...
I think I'll put them in both, actually. If you want to run them as stock cars, run them on the stock rubber unchanged, and if you want to tune one, go ahead and run it on RH.

Re: GT5 Nürburgring Bench Racing Thread 1.1
Pretty much the decision I reached with GTData too. Uniquely they are listed as Production and Tuner.

RUF CTR "Yellow Bird" '87 - robiker - 7:59.500
SH 534PP
The CTR on stock tires is hard mode. The rear end wants to come around with the least provocation.

Opel Speedster '00 - robiker - 8:46.488
CS 410PP
Despite being an MR on CS tires, the Speedster is a joy to drive around the 'Ring.
