Wall goes to California
In a practice lounge Wall mentioned he's visiting his family on the west coast in early May by way of asking where Infineon is in relation to Laguna Seca which he already planned to visit while out there. I took the liberty of expanding his itinerary of racetrack visits significantly.
Infineon Raceway (until August when the Infineon sponsorship runs out, then possibly good old Sears Point once again)
29355 Arnold Drive, Sonoma
Buttonwillow Raceway (a bit west of Bakersfield, just west of I-5)
24551 Lerdo Hwy, Buttonwillow
Paramount Ranch (now western movie set, abandoned racetrack still visible)
2903 Cornell Road, Agoura Hills
Long Beach temporary street circuit (red & white paint at all apexes hard to miss)
Shoreline Dr - Aquarium Way - Queens Way - Shoreline Dr - S. Pine Ave - Seaside Way - (arena parking lot) - Shoreline Dr
Toyota Speedway Irwindale (closed over winter last I read, website dead apparently)
500 Speedway Drive (at 605 & Live Oak Ave)
Riverside Raceway is now the Moreno Valley Mall, bleh
Ontario Motor Speedway is now random sprawl (just across I-10 from the airport), hints of legacy remain in street names.

Re: Wall goes to California
Lol, thanks man. Might be able to squeeze Sears Point in too. Not sure on Buttonwillow though. Riverside is a mall now ...geez. I remember when they had the first Winston race there, I was surprised they put cigarette name on a series. That track was only a few miles from my high school. Both were out in the middle of wheat and not much else lol. Got my ass kicked by a bunch of rednecks one night there. Hated cowboy boots for years after that....they hurt
Definitely would love to walk around Laguna though, that would be very cool Hopefully the track is open when I'm there.

Walking Laguna Seca sounds like fun, I think your chances of doing so are better if it's closed.

My brother (the one on the left) is going to California next week! He just won that contest and he gets to go to a big biking movie premier to have his movie played before hand. The premier is "at some race track in Monterey" he tells me... The event is the Sea Otter Classic and it's held somewhere in the Laguna Seca Racreational Area. He'll be there on the 20th

Re: Wall goes to California
Well we're home. Great trip. Makes me really hate where I live even more than I already do . I'd never been near Monterey or San Francisco before. Very diverse geography and temps. Went from 90's to 60's in less than ten minutes lol. Didn't realize my route would take us right thru Buttonwillow. We didn't have enough time to stop though. Went up to Monterey and Carmel (where Clint Eastwood was Mayor) and drove down into part of Big Sur. Would be a great ride in the Z4 or a MX5 or the like. Left for SF Wed. am and had to drive right by Laguna Seca. Ended up spending half the day there. Got to walk the perimeter of the entire track and take a ton of pics (over 400 lol). A lot of spots had double fencing so you couldn't get up to the track (top of the hill before the corkscrew), but most of it was visible from the footpaths surrounding. Only place we didn't really go was the straight away (s/f/ line area) but I got a lot of pics of the turns we all love (and hate lol). And we got really lucky cuz there was all kinds of practice going on for a Le Mans Event this weekend. There were three different classes we saw on track, plus a few more that we didn't see run. At the end we went into the paddock which we didn't know we were allowed to do. I wish I had 1% of the money sittin there in cars, tires, and transport trucks lol. Met the kid who won the Spec Miata Nationals at Mid Ohio last season. Didn't even know who he was then lol....real nice kid. Told my brother in law about him and turns out they know each other. They run the Miatas like the DLC open top one we have. I'll prolly have more after I think about it some more lol.
Oh yea, you should see all the sand that gets in the corkscrew while they're running. Yikes lol! And you can really see the compression taking place as they got by there at the bottom of the corner. Also, the short straight following it is very steep. It's supposed to be like a 4 story drop all together.
A question I do have for you guys is, I have a buch of pics I'd like you guys to see, and need to know what would be the best way to do it so everyone who wants to can check em out. I assume I'll have to do some sort of album with a link?

Sounds like a fantastic trip Wall.
If you want to share al of your pics you'll want to upload them to photobucket or picasa. You can put them in albums and share links to them.

Glad you had a good time Wall. Will definitely be looking forward to some eye candy from Laguna. That is one of those tracks I've promised myself to see some day.

Yea, that was shit luck lol. Not sure what all the classes were. There were those little Mazda GT (?) cars, and the next batch out were what I'm pretty sure were Porsches (or Nissans lol) but it was hard to tell on some. They had a Mustang class that was coming up, and the MX5's were going out later.
Just got my Bose back from the repair place so I need to get that back in place and run some laps at Laguna mostly to see if walking the track like that was any help. I'm optomistic It was sure different from the view we have.
And...I'll get those pics straightened out so you guys can see them.

Hopefully this works...okay it does.
K guys, here is a link to my pics from Laguna. Some were taken with flash but most were not. Once open just click view as slideshow and that should do it. I believe you can stop and start as you please. Yup, just checked again and there's a pause button bottom left. Some were taken in sequence. Hope you like them lol, and check all the sand in the corkscrew .

Great pics Wall, thanks for sharing
I was lucky enough to visit Laguna Seca last summer on a road trip through the US to San Francisco. In fact, the trip was based around the MotoGP round held there which is where my Avatar comes from. The friend I was with took the picture and we added a few bits to it, like Valentino Rossi's Autograph . Picture was taken at turn 4. Fantastic place to visit and the MotoGP bikes made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up (being the 2-wheeled guy that I am) and nearly burst my ear drums!

Great stuff Wall.
Those 911s were probably prepping for the race that Sean Johnston won. He's one of the GT Academy finalists who has found his way in to a GT3 cup car despite not winning the Academy ride.

Thanks Don, I'm very glad I got to check it out. We were on our way to SF as well. All I could smell for the next day and a half after we left was rubber and racing fuel....definitely worth it. Oh, and after talkin to my brother in law, he told me I should have tried to find the pace car driver and see if he would take me around the track. I guess they'll do that on occasion when it's just practice like that.

That's crazy! Ya never know who yer gonna see I guess. I think I told you that the kid in the pic is the guy who won the SM championship at Mid Ohio 2011. Didn't know it then lol. Just walked up and started talkin to him about his car. Kinda cool that I got those shots of Sean then. I was just clickin away lol.
Glad you guys liked them and thanks for your comments,
