NP V, I ran some 124's the other day, so take 2-3 seconds off that and that should be where the fast guys (including you).

Pretty good practice crowd. I kept my 3/10 brakes with 10 ABS from previous week. Not entirely sure about tire wear balance or rate compared to race distance. Having TCS up to 8 not a hindrance, it doesn't appear unless I'm doing a combination of steering + throttle that's unwise. Best laps 1'21.mid range, couple .5s with TCS on 8.

did a couple of 13 lappers during practice with 3/10brakes, 1 abs, and 8 tcs. laps were mostly 1.23's, with tires 1/3 front and lots left on rears on lap 13. noticed grip was falling off on 12/13 but with sh tires, sometimes they will hang in there like that for a long time. probably possible to make it the whole way taking extreme care.

the last 6 lapper i was in, i managed all 1:22's which was a first for the evening for me. hopefully i'll be able to race with you all friday, but last night was fun. thanks.

what are the high ABS and TCS for? Does it make you faster or is it for tire wear?

Thanks Thumbs Up!

Thanks Thumbs Up!

High ABS because I have stupid brake balance (3/10) and the ABS makes it a little less likely to step out the back end if I brake while not going straight. High ABS is probably more for wear than speed.

High TCS for this:
Having TCS up to 8 not a hindrance, it doesn't appear unless I'm doing a combination of steering + throttle that's unwise.
Basically being in 2nd gear allows wheelspin leaving the two slow corners despite AWD. Setting TCS to 8 keeps me from spinning the wheels if I apply throttle too much in 2nd gear, which is for wear prevention but it doesn't slow me down at all (results may vary for those of you hard on front tires).

Post  vkaifh on Fri May 25, 2012 10:55 am

so I tried it with TCS = 8 and w/o TCS at all (what's a compromise? Razz ).

I'm faster w/o TCS and more important I enjoy the ride much more. With TCS the car seems to do thing (slowing down in turns for example) I have no control over what so ever.
I guess it only shows how aggressive my driving style is and I'm sure I pay for it tonight with horrible tire wear. Crying or Very sad

But at the end I'm out on the track for fun and that's what I have w/o TCS Very Happy

So far best time: 1'21.945; I hope to get a few more laps in before tonight.

i noticed the same thing with TCS at 8 .... if i did something wrong or drove to agressively in a turn, it would kick in. TCS at 8 actually helps me and i got my fastest laps wednesday night. first time i've ever had it turned on, in fact. i'll have to try it more.

hmmm, using it as a learning tool for smoother driving. I haven't looked at it that way yet. Maybe I reconsider scratch

It's not just 'being smoother' that would help you not eat front tires so quickly, it's using less steering input.

I reconsidered but still decided to drive w/o TCS. However on my next practice I tried to follow clacksman's advice of less steering input (not that he already told me that 1000 times Razz ).
I got 8 laps in before work called and I had to abandon. All 8 laps were in the mid 1'22s; the tires looked awful but I'm confident I can make it through 15 laps and get away with a one stop strategy.

See you all tonight. wave

Looked like lots of position change behind me. Laughing Twisted Evil

Looks like the pit/no-pit came out about even overall (based on order at lap 11 vs order at lap 28) even though the no-pit was the way to go.

I don't think I can apologize enough for that rear ending Forgetful, I am glad it didn't impact your race. I was a bit surprised to see you back with me when the race started, assumed some kind of bug, opened door wide for you as soon as possible. No intention of really getting in anyone's way in that race. Non-broken in car, almost no practice the last month and it's not like I was bringing a lot of natural talent to the table... Wink

Blew you up under braking I think because I was running ABS 10 as clackman suggested and ABS just turned off my brakes I guess going in to that corner. My engine gone, and both front corners totally wrecked, I pitted a couple laps later, linked up with Wallhugger and as he was a lap up on me, got behind him and just tried to stay clear while re-learning how to drive, and the track. Wallhugger had a really unfortunate accident in the middle of a lap. I waited up for him, but when I saw him pit behind me, I took off and ended up destroying a rear corner myself. Brake checked you a bit when my tail came out trying to wave you by, pitted again around lap ... 8 or 9 maybe? Ended up right in front of clacksman. Tried to leave door open, but I think I stayed ahead of him a bit long. Waved him by in the spiral, then hung on to him for dear life through the rest of the race. Extremely pleased with that bit of driving.

My roommate became concerned when he heard me yelling at my car that I wasn't done with it yet, the couple of times I started to fall back of clacksman. Driving behind clacksman reminds me of watching Kimi Raikonnen, ridiculously quick in this way that looks effortless. Gave me something to focus on instead of staring in to the tarmac as well. albino

I had a decent gap back to the riffraff, and you looked a bit laggy (typical west coast lag) and I didn't want to press after taking corner damage in a practice race from Rooster leaning on me. And (and ... and) you weren't really holding me up much.

the first 10-11 laps with the lead 5 cars was a blast. we were like a train going 'round the track on a most excellent adventure!

tires were looking real good around lap 13-14, so i kept going and made it up to 2nd with about a 10 sec gap behind clacksman. a few laps later and trying to maintain the same pace, i was cherryin' the tires in several places, which killed them, and others were really catching me quickly. gave up at lap 22 and pitted. only gained one position after that, as i think forgetful had some trouble on worn tires.

love these rhythm tracks. hard to pass and gotta keep it consistent. nicely done everybody!

what a fun night clap

The start looked very different than normal, because the track was empty in front of me. Shocked

Qualifying 2nd was the first positive surprise and it wouldn't be the last.

I was able to defend 2nd place and followed clacksman for the first few laps. Close behind me was Rooster and I knew I could not make the slightest mistake or I lose at least one position.
I suspected clacksman and others wouldn't have to stop so I enjoyed the close race as I expected it to only last half the race. When I pitted after lap 15 clacksman already had a lead of a few seconds so I was not tempted to stay out. For once a good decision. Thumbs Up!

I came back 5th and expected an eventless 2nd half. But I got positively surprised a second time. I was able to hang on to Rooster who must have pitted a few laps before me. And together we railed in the no-stoppers or better the 'I haven't pitted yet' or 'I had to pit very early' folks.
And when it came to pass Agent I could surprise Rooster and not only pass Agent but him too. Very Happy

Being on fresher tires I build a small gap to Rooster and could even pass Forgetful whose tires must have been gone by then.

Started 2nd, finished 2nd; sounds boring but was everything but. Good times Very Happy
