I'm hoping you guys can steer me in the right direction here Arrow . I've noticed that for the last few months, I've had to "reset" my modem and router way more than I think I should. Used to be maybe once every 6 months or less. Now it's about once a week. Both are Linksys components and around 2 years old so I'm a little surprised at the frequency I'm having to do this. I was wondering if there's a cache to clear like in the game or something like that. Or...are they on their way out. My network is part hardwired (desktop, stand alone tower connected to tv, and the PS3) and part wireless (my wifes and my laptop). Usually no more than the 2 laptops are running or 1 and another component. There are no other issues I'm aware of. Lemme know if ya got any ideas.

Thanks, Wall

Make sure you have the latest firmware installed on your router.

If you don't know how, you should be able to figure it out armed only with your router's product number, google, and the words "firmware update".

Actually, everyone should make sure they update their router's firmware due to a fairly serious flaw that was discovered a few months ago having to do with the "easy setup" button that a lot of routers have. Basically, no matter what security you have enabled on your router, if it has one of those easy setup buttons, bad guys (or your neighbors) can brute force their way into your router within a few hours in most cases.

Another thing to consider is to use the factory reset button on the Router to reset all values to their defaults and setup the Wireless network again. This will mean re-setting up the passkey on those wireless devices but should be a minor inconvenience.

Got kids? Is the admin login to your router still the default username and password? Do your kids know the IP address of your router and/or how to google the default username and password? Is your wireless secure? Is your wireless really secure (IE, it does not broadcast the SSID, the SSID isn't something your neighbors kid could figure out, and it has a sufficiently complex WEP/WPA key on it?)

Do you run a "signal booster" on your router? All of the ones I've ever seen greatly reduce signal fidelity in order to drive the range past the reasonable limit. If you have the option, I suggest running the lowest "signal power" you can and still get connectivity throughout your house. This has two effects: It keeps the neighbors wannabe-hacker kid from getting in to your router to stream internet porn in to his bedroom without his parents catching the traffic, and it improves the quality of the signal within your house.

Well my firmware is the latest version and was actually just updated Feb. 3rd this year. I'm running passworded ssid that would be pretty tuff to crack imo. It's the 26 character security. I did add a 4 port switch a while ago, but it's only for the dvd player and dvr and both of those are hardwired. I haven't booted that as of yet. Not sure what else to try if that;s not an issue.

is that the right thread? Who knows, but I hope timneyb finds it since this is about GT Data.

Now that being logged in at GT Data becomes more important to me I'm wondering if there is a way to stay logged in just like here or at other forums.
When ever I close my explorer and then come back to GT Data in a new window I have to type user and pw again.

I have to re-enter those too, but Chrome autofills both fields so I just click ok. Pretty sure Firefox also autofills.

Well, if you can't get to my desk in Admin or send me a message through GTData, this will do Smile

I'm looking into it. The GTData session cookie seems a little unpredictable in how long it lasts for certain people. Since I never really exit my browser it never gets deleted, so I stay logged in. I'm researching how best to provide a persistent login option. I've just had different fish to fry. I'll try to fry this fish when I get the chance.

yup, Firefox autofills both fields. For now I use it for GT Data. The different browsers don't really make a difference for me. Shocked

Thanks timneyb. No rush, 'I' found a workable solution. Very Happy

Every time I turn on GT5 for the first time after starting the PS3, I get stuck on the shimmering "GT" logo indefinitely. I quit the game, restart the game and all is fine. It's been happening for quite a while now. Anybody else have this?

I haven't tried many combinations of when I log in, or running something else before GT5, since I hope/forget about it recurring.

Not quite as bad, but the GT logo is up for a lot longer than it used to be. The other thing it does is shrink lol. Starts off normal and blips a size smaller right before the earth pops on screen. I noticed too that every time there's an update the logo time changes. Prolly 2-3 updates ago the logo and disclaimer would both come up together, and last 5 seconds and then the game would load. I guess I'm lucky that it doesn't do what you'rre describing T.

First startup has been longer for me since last update too. I used to get the 'no-start then restart and it's fine' before about 2.01 but not since.

Try not signing in until you're on the main menu screen.
