DriverSports G Production Series | Sunday July 1 | Cape Ring South

Post  group44 on Mon Jun 25, 2012 6:23 pm

Driversports.org is proud to announce its newest series, G Production. This class consists of a large portion of pre-1975 cars under 2 liters available in GT5. They have all been matched in performance to create a highly competitive field. We will be running a six week series in these vintage machines on some of GT's original tracks. Drivers will have to commit to a single car to run for the entire duration of the series.

The regulations for G Production will have the race room set to 128hp and 850kg on Comfort Soft tires with all assists disabled. To achieve these specs, all entries will be allowed to have Stealth Modifications to the engine (Sports Intake Manifold, Racing Air Filter, and Sports Exhaust Manifold). There are a few cars that will also need additional Engine Stage Tuning, and some that will require the use of the Engine Limiter. Please note if your car is high mile, you may show different power/limiter figures than those provided in GTdata. You may not add additional tuning parts to make up for losses in power due to mileage. These extra parts will be readily visible upon tech inspection, and you will be disqualified from the race standings.

In addition to the engine limitations and room settings, GT Auto wings are also not allowed. You may use any combination of weight reduction, chassis stiffening, transmission, drivetrain and suspension parts. To meet the weight restrictions, ballasting (and ballast positioning) is allowed.

The preseason races have shown this field to be very competitive and exciting from the drop of the green to the checkered flag. We at DriverSports look forward to seeing you all on track for this six week showdown.

Schedule:
  • June 17 - Autumn Ring | 2.95 km | 1.83 mi
    24 laps | 70.80 km | 43.92 mi

Practiced enough to get gearing sorted out. Registered. There's a couple guys in the DriverSports lounge.

Live quali results:
Rooster 1'40.037
robiker 1'40.121
clacksman 1'40.239
Agent 1'40.851
Forgetful 1'41.718
no_aff 1'44.520

Race results:
Rooster 38'33.079
robiker +.135
Forgetful +2.072
clacksman +2.383
Agent +7.256
no_aff DNF

Rooster just about wandered off from the start. robiker/Forgetful/myself fought over second running about the same lap times with Agent hanging back slightly. Forgetful was first to drop off the 2-3-4 pack (well, after no_a exited due to evil handling) with a near-spin leaving me a better shot at biker, but I was crap in the final turn so I could never make a pass stick as he would just repass me up the straight. Despite all this we slowly crept back up to Rooster, once I dropped back from biker the 1-2 gap about disappeared. Last couple laps biker led briefly (the only non-Rooster to do so) and I thought he had a shot at the win due to how good he had the 117 in the last turn, meanwhile I sort of almost fought off Forgetful for third (but not quite).

Good times.

I laugh every time I watch that replay - seeing all of us struggle in the last turn. I only got it right a few times the whole race. I kept locking-up going in, but couldn't tell it was happening til I noticed that I couldn't steer. When I hit Rooster in that turn, I got off the brake and throttle and was trying to turn left, but my car kept going straight, pushing his car sideways. Luckily, we both came out of it without losing too much time.
Another great race.

That last corner was what made the race I think. I don't know what the right line through it was, but I suspect that it didn't much matter. If you setup wide to take a good line, you open up the inside pass. If you block the pass you've got a much tighter line so you're slower on exit.

That was one of the most thrilling races I've run. Thanks again folks!

That was one of the most exciting finishes I've been a part of. I've always been mediocre at Cape Ring anyversion, so winning there felt like a major accomplishment from my perspective. Especially with everyone running so darn well, Robiker in particular. The harder I drove, the more time he was able to shave off in the closing laps. He had me beat, but just ran out of time.
