Going back to Limerock
Hey guys, I will be going to a track day at Limerock here in CT. on July 16th. I have rented an SM for the day. Just wanted to let you know there is still available cars and spots left for registration. You can also bring your own car if you like. I'll be in the novice group which means track and class time, and will have an instructer with me all the time I'm in the car. The day cost is $345.00, and the rental is $895.00. Not cheap I know, but I want to try it again before I dive into buying a car, finding it's not my thing and having to sell a car, and trailer and so on.
Anyway, I know some of you fellas are within 2-5 hours of me, and thought I'd let ya know. Heck, I've got a guest room if ya wanted to drive up on Sunday and stay over. Then we could head out first thing.
It's put on by the SCDA and the rentals are from Rosmar Racing if yer interested. PM me or ask here if ya have any questions

Man that sounds righteous Wall. Can't say my racing budget has Limerock in it so I'll have to depend on your review of the weekend. Hope all goes well and you catch the bug. And if the price tag looks a bit steep, you can always consider enduro karting

Re: Going back to Limerock
I almost did that about 16 years ago, after I quit racing motorcycles. It would have cost about $1000 for the weekend. Instead, I found a slightly used shifter kart for $4000 and was able to drive and race it as much as I wanted. I sold it a year later and got almost all my investment back.
Just an FYI. Either way I'm sure you'll have a blast.

Re: Going back to Limerock
Yea, I didn't think jumpin in with a car purchase was the best idea right now. Last year when I went, I kinda did things a little wrong. Afterwards my brother in law said we shouldn't have put me in the intermediate group first time out. So I'm still a little on the fence as far as how far I want to get into running a car, whether just for fun or more seriously. This way I'm starting out like I never did any track time at all with the class room time and theory along with it.
I actually found a few cars really cheap (less than 2 grand) and if I got one I wouldn't register it. Found a trailer for around a grand, and tires would be between 4 to 8 hundred depending on if I used new or take offs. And add a basic roll bar, and whatever else a car that cheap would need to be track worthy, and you just hit 5 grand. So I'll give this a shot and see. Then I'll decide and might be lookin for a car over the rest of 2012 to have ready for next season.
Don't know about the rest of the country, but just an fyi, most all the tracks around here like Limerock, Watkins Glen, both New Jersey's, Pocono, and more all do track days for HPDE (high performance drivers ed) where you can either rent or bring your own car. Track days without rentals are all around $300.00.

Pics and video or it didn't happen!
Or it did... but we won't be able to live vicariously through you...
Limerock isn't a track I was familiar with until iRacing (I don't know 'Merican tracks except Watkins Glen, mmmm) but having spent many hours at it in my pretend MX-5, it's becoming a favorite. Much learning has been had there in getting my times down from the 1'02 range to the 1'00s.

Re: Going back to Limerock
Lol, only got a few pics as things were kinda busy at first and then the heat kicked in. Did pretty well from what the instructors said . If yer hittin 1's with the Mazda Cup car, that's a real good time. I didn't rent the transponder to get lap times so I have no idea where my times were. Nowhere near 1 minute though I'm sure. The day was better than last year, but it's a high stress track with not a lot of breaks between corners as you know. Every time I got out of the car I was soaked to the skin lol. I think if I do it again, it'll be Watkins or one of the NJ tracks. Lotsa crazy rigs runnin, an R8, buncha Elise's, A supercharged Mustang Cobra GT that blew the fiberglass right outta his glasspaks lol. Some Z04' and 7's I think too. Two old Jag racecars. Good day if a little too hot. Kicked my butt by the end.

Re: Going back to Limerock
My 1'00 laptime was only owing to the fact that I wasn't soiling myself bolting up the hill at 85mph
Fear is the one thing you can never model in a simulation. iRacing does a pretty good job of it by penalizing you for harming even a single blade of grass, but I don't think that's quite the same thing...

Re: Going back to Limerock
That hill is a lot of fun actually. You get a good compresion right before the concrete, and hold it to the floor lol. Just make sure yer wheels straight when you crest or you'll be takin out a whole bunch of blades.

In iLimerock, I found it was better for my lap times to brake slightly and make sure I got on the power again early, quick blip at the top to avoid spinning out and I'm ok. On the other hand, better for my lap times, and best are probably two different things as I see people putting in 58.7s in the same MX-5 Roadster. I really love iLimerock, much learning has been done. Primarily in the realm of stringing corners together for maximum laptime benefit.
Re: Going back to Limerock
I really wish GT had Lime Rock cuz I'd love to see how it does in game as opposed to irl. Yea, you definitely have to hit the corners well. If you screw up turn 1, the rest until you get to the back straight are messed up.

Re: Going back to Limerock
Glad you had a great time Wall. Sounds like some interesting iron to boot. Also, I gotta believe that last corner never gets old.
The Marshals will be talking to you shortly for that infraction

Re: Going back to Limerock
Lol, I accept responsibilty for not having my transponder hooked up and in working condition.
It takes a few laps, but I got to the point of a teeny lift and that was it for the last corner. As you come down that hill all I could think was " no way I can take this full speed"...but you can in a SM anyway.

Some pics from Lime Rock. Sorry there isn't more. Figured some might like all the Lotus' (what's the plural for Lotus lol). The 3 SM's were the rental cars. Don't really care for Porches, but that one looked tuff.
