Cheers!
Definitely gotta agree there. After quite a few laps at different tracks with that car I jumped in the Roadster at LR and picked up almost 2 seconds from my last race there. Proll make the 7:45 race tonight but nothin else. Plus the SOF will kill me when I'm on with any of you guys .

Re: 2012 Season 4 - Starts 10/30
In an effort to earn my B license I've been working on my LMP1 skills. I actually managed a race at Spa last week in one without wrecking, I think I finished 4th or something. Then I hopped in the Solstice for a quick race with a friend at LRP and completely undid (and more) my SR gains. I really need to stick with one or maybe two cars rather than hopping around so much, and I might make it the SRF. I wanted to do the LMP1, but they only run races 3 nights a week and I'm rarely around Fri-Sat-Sun nights...

I still expect this to be a Nissan I'll find out tonight (or more likely tomorrow morning).

SpecMiata-JSW wrote:Thanks guys. I guess I got a bit self conscience because the other forum I keep up with is the GTP iRacing forum and they were discussing how people who only focus on one car always have a higher iRating because the difficulty isn't there from switching from one car to the next. I thought I'd give something new a try to challenge that theory and now I'm glad I did; it really makes the sim more rewarding when you have to keep learning your craft.
Sounds like typical racing driver nonsense to me Actually, just sounds like gamesmanship.
"I'm better at this game, I'm just playing a harder to master ___________!"
"Well, yeah you're rated higher than me, but your __________ is faceroll easy!"
"Well, sure, I mean Fernando Alonso is faster than me in an F1 car, that's all he ever drives!"
If they have a problem with people having high iRatings because they drive "easy" cars, I suggest you get them to come "down" to your level and race you!
That's the best part about sport, in my opinion: The best driver is the one who wins. Period. That we live in a world where talking heads will discuss to the end of time who the most "deserving" champion would be, but also in a world where we foam at the mouth that College Football doesn't have a playoff because the only way to know who deserves to win is the team that does win, leads me to believe that people have no concept of intellectual honesty and just like to bitch...
Don't listen to people. Like Alistair Griffin says, "Just driiiiiiiiiive..."
(It is also now impossible for me to hear this song and not think of Mansel trying to push his Lotus across the finish line and collapsing...)
Re: 2012 Season 4 - Starts 10/30
I've been having a little crisis of pace lately. I've been pretty decent in the SRF and the Skippy, and I quite enjoy them, but I tooled around in the Caddy, the Lotus 79 and the Riley DP, and man am I slow Surely some dedicated time in faster cars would see my times come down, but we're talking 6-8 seconds.
I've been avoiding the track lately and I need to change that. I've got a 3 day weekend and a line on a program that will allow me to connect my pedals through my wheel and still have ABS vibration in the brake pedal, which means I can switch back and forth between iRacing and GT5, hopefully. I wrapped AC3 (which means the world shouldn't end on December 21st) and my current Madden fascination won't last long.
I too was guilty of driving too many cars, but it's hard not to jump around with the frequency at which some of the series' run.

Re: 2012 Season 4 - Starts 10/30
Well, my SRF cherry is popped....and it was a mess. A BIG mess.
Out of 96 starts I can now say that I've had the worst race of my iRacing career. Everything started out great. I qualified 2nd and ran there for 4 laps. The leader, myself, and 3rd place all had between a .4 and a .6 gap for the first 4 laps. We were basically just keeping pace to gap the field; then would get racy toward the end. Things were going good....
We now enter turn 1 on lap 5. The leader gets a little loose, so I try to go on the outside to avoid him, his car slides into the back of mine, and totals me as it shoves me into the wall. They both take off and end up finishing 1st and 3rd.
I have to get towed because my car is FUBAR'd and get lapped twice. I pull out in 14th out of 19 and make my way up to 13th before having my inside left rear cut the curb on the left curbing of the chicane. I spin get another 2X and get passed by 14th again. I get going put two more laps under my belt and hit the same curb the same way I did two laps previous....ANOTHER 2X and now my car is not drive-able again. I crawl back to the pits getting passed by the entire field and hear the last lap being called while I have two minutes left to get the car fixed.
-142 iRating loss and 7X incidents. What a race. LOL!
It looks like I need to re-learn something that I haven't discovered entering the chicane.

Are you playing Madden football on the PS3? Also, what is AC3? I sure hope it helps stop the world from ending. I want to have a nice Christmas and hopefully finish a race or two in the SRF without perishing in flames.

Re: 2012 Season 4 - Starts 10/30
Madden on the PS3, yeah. Just bought 13. I like to run a franchise.
Assassin's Creed 3 is also a PS3 game. Lots of parkour and stabbing. Set during the American Revolution your the assassin that just happens to be a part of all of the major events of the Revolution, from Reveere's ride to the Tea Party and a few battles along the way, all of which is a just a cover for the Templar plot for world domination that you're ancestors (all assassins) have been trying to thwart for centuries.
I've been enjoying my racing when I'm in the car, but I've been having a hard time motivating myself to get in to the rig in the first place, so I've been distracting myself with other games and good tv shows.
I started watching Homeland because I was creeping on Jeff's facebook conversation. Boardwalk Empire is great. I burned through The Shield and it's funny to see so many actors crossing over in to Sons of Anarchy, which is also great. The BBC's Sherlock is a pretty decent modernization that doesn't include Lucy Liu. For a sleazy laugh, Call Me Fitz is pretty funny and if you have 12 minutes an episode of Children's Hospital is a great way to challenge just how stupid something can be, while still qualifying as funny. I've got Walking Dead to get in to as well as Hell on Wheels. Breaking Bad has got ahead of me as well.

Re: 2012 Season 4 - Starts 10/30
If I didn't have bad luck racing the SRF I'd have no luck. I qualified 4th in a really strong field; we all make it through turn 1 safely and make our way up to the chicane. We enter the chicane and 3rd place checks up big time so he doesn't spin, therefore I check up not to hit him....guess what happens? The largest iRacing wreck I've ever witnessed. VK was in the race and he was also involved.
It was brutal. Virtual death everywhere.
-93 more iRating and 6X incident points later I still haven't had a good SRF race. Wowee.
It was fun to share the track with a fellow DS guy once again. G44 also came out to practice for a bit too. Good stuff!

I was the 7th car coming into the chicane, saw the carnage developing and could still not escape it.
Certainly the biggest wreck I have ever seen in iRacing too. Normally I get upset when my race gets ruined (and even more upset when ruined by myself). But this was so hilarious that I was just shaking my head and laughing while being towed.
SRFs at Watkins make for very close racing and normally it's just great. The track is easy and drafty enough to keep the cars together for a long time. I enjoy the week a lot even though the results are a roller coaster.
It was great being on the track with you, Spec; even though it only lasted half a lap.

Always more enjoyable when you've got others you know to talk about the track with

This. One my bigger issue with getting a good result in the SRF. Even if I don't sabotage myself, the car so dislikes sudden inputs it's seems rare I don't get wrapped up in something I'd be able to avoid in another ride. Still enjoy the challenge though.

Get rid of alot of the caster. I set it at 1.7 I think. That really seemed to help make it more friendly, especially in the chicane. You should be able to hit that first left curb at least half way on and not have any spinout issues. I was doing the same the Spec was talkin about. You've gotta be able to cut all of them and that calmed it down. When I was there some of the drivers I talked to said they're in the dirt half the time thru there so it can be done.

I'm going to give the SRF another shot at 7:45. Let's hope my luck isn't a three-peat.

I'm glad you and Andrew joined in. I'm not so glad you didn't have a great race. Maybe a great episode of Dexter and Homeland will make you feel better about your day in iRacing?
What happened in the race, and what happened in Atlanta?

Re: 2012 Season 4 - Starts 10/30
23 incident points in two races. 4 of my last 5 races have been disasters.
At RATL I got run over by a faster Jetta then tangled with an MX-5 shortly thereafter. In the SRF the two cars in front of me got together and spun in T1, causing me to spin. Well after I had got straight and headed up the hill a car clipped one of the other crashed cars and skipped off in to me. I towed and repaired, but spun twice more in the next few laps. My nerves were shot.

That sucks. Things happen in groups, you just have to find a nice and comfortable race to break the cycle. My SRF virtual death trend was bothering me all weekend, so I know how annoying a bad luck streak can be.
Hope to see you on track soon!
SRF looks nice by the way. I dig the Castrol JGTC Supra theme you have going.

Re: 2012 Season 4 - Starts 10/30
Yer right there J. I had to go back to the Nvidia at LR to get away from that car and the idiots (not always). That's how I knew I picked up the 2 seconds. I ran the Roadster for 5-6 races cuz it's very stable. Just gotta remember the shift points are different (5 and 6 speed). Every race in the SRF was getting worse and worse, partly me and partly them. Hard to drive and have fun when all you're thinkin about is not wrecking or being wrecked.

I guess the SRF is really not a good car to jump in and out. Since I drive nothing else this season I'm really having a blast with it.
After 6 weeks I'm 10th in division 2 and 24th overall. I might promote myself to the Skippy next season.

Like I mentioned the other day, even if it is all you have focused on, I'm really impressed (jealous ) with how well you've been doing in the SRF. I'm sure you'll do the same with the Skip.

Dat Star Mazda... Not high enough license to drive it yet in a race, not nearly back in practice enough to bother trying but... Fun!
