Curious to know how you guys have your Skippy set-up for this one? I'm really struggling with locking the brakes up. Using stock G27 at 60% brake bias, any lower on bias I seem to get too much entry oversteer, however it may just be me carrying too much brake whilst turning in. Maybe I need to left foot brake so I can maintain some gas, although I heard this can't really be done in the Skip IRL?

Any tips gratefully accepted Wink
Nige.

I originally was tuning everything to eliminate oversteer as much as possible (according to the notes on the Chalder Setup, available on the iRacing forums, this meant low numbers for ride height, max rear bar stiffness, and lower tire pressures in front). It kind of worked, as the car was less oversteery, but the problem that I didn't discover until last night is that in doing so, the car was far more difficult to catch if things got a little sideways. I made a big change last night to running 3s (or maybe even 4s) for the ride height and 4 for rear bar stiffness, and although the car is definitely more oversteery now, it is also a lot more predictable and easier to catch. Also, I run 58% brake bias. You just have to be very gentle with your inputs when you're turning in at the end of a braking zone.

DSO Skippy is the one John and I were using last night Nigel.

With my replay running I load FRAPS, press Ctrl-F12 in the sim to get the camera controls, place my shots then hit F10 to grab a screenshot with FRAPS.

Good old print screen button will get you a lower res pic too.

Still have the replay?

I'll check out Fraps or the G44 program tonight since I'm a bit too tired to race, and my wife will still probably go to sleep early or want to work.

I tried the Ctrl-F12 once before but couldn't figure much out, it seems uber confusing, also I didn't know to use the print screen function.

Yep, I've got the replay from last night, and also the Roar where the DSO Mustang was in some super tight action for the whole race.

If you press PrintScrn on your keyboard you will copy an image to the clipboard and you can paste that in to anything. Usually you can just open up Paint and press Ctrl-V (or go Edit -> Paste) and viola.

So even if the game doesn't support "Screenshots" so to speak, you can always capture the screen, paste it in to paint, save it as a .JPG or .TGA or whatever, and upload it someplace. Paint is very very bad at JPEG images, so I recommend saving as a TGA. Or using something like Photoshop/Gimp to save the capture as a JPEG so you don't lose quality.

Freeware Fraps will let you bind a key (like F10) to take a screen capture and save it in TGA, PNG, BMP or JPEG format in whatever folder you want. I use it to save screenshots direct to my desktop for ease of uploading to my Picasa albums. Makes it very easy.

Any paint I post here can be used Smile

Forgot to mention that my list of Pros encountered on track grew to 3 the other day. Matt Plumb was the first. Alvaro Parente was haunting the SRF a few weeks back and just last weekend I was on track with (different class) Shane Van Gisbergen.

Wow, can't catch a break at all at Infineonoma Point with the Solstice today. Earlier today I was actually taken out on the parade lap by an out of control at 35 MPH Mazda. How do you do that ? All I could do was laugh about it. G44 and I were in the 10:15 race , and he was taken out in turn 2 on lap #1, and I was just flat taken out of the lead on the white flag lap, the other driver used my car for brakes after I ran him down from 7 seconds back and passed him cleanly. He apologized afterwards, said "Really sorry, that was my only shot". LOL . The good news is the performance is there; got down to mid 51's before that last race. Hope to get some SRF in tomorrow. Very Happy

I almost feel bad for winning that one. I even spun coming down the back stretch once, lost the lead and reeled it back it. Not the most impressive drive but because of the SOF I scored 158 points in the most uncontested race of the 4 I ran in the Solstice.

The race before that I won when I probably shouldn't have too. You pulled over early and so did the guy the next guy, later on.

Nice save!

I saw that 158 after the race, nice points haul ! I doubt that this week will end up being a drop for you, lol. The earlier race that you referred to, I reentered the track without hitting anything after running off in the esses, but the off-track excursion bent the suspension, forcing a pitstop. That was my self-inflicted wound of the day.

The NASCAR iRacing Series (NiS) 2013

Description of Series: This iRacing official series to follow the weekly Sprint Cup Track Schedule racing the new Gen-6 cars for the entire Sprint Cup season.

Objective: A new, special event style official series aimed at providing fun and competitive NASCAR racing for every license level except the rookie license level. This series also intended to have a direct tie-in to the excitement of the real world NASCAR Sprint Cup by being at the same tracks each week and battling through a long and varied schedule like the real-world drivers.

Race Times: Two different weekly time slots to keep it event style yet offering some schedule flexibility. Thursday nights 9:00 PM EST (2:00 GMT) & Saturday mornings at 11:00 AM EST (16:00 GMT). After the daylight savings time change, the GMT times will move forward 1 hour. (1:00 GMT & 15:00 GMT)

Car choices: Chevrolet SS-Gen6 car & Ford Fusion-Gen6 car (once released)

Tracks & Race Weeks: Every Sprint Cup track starting with the third race of the year, Las Vegas, for a full 34 week season. We are starting with third race this year because that will allow us to start the series with the new Gen6 cars which are under development. (FYI, the World Tour Daytona 500 event is available to run using old car for that race week.) Track Note: Kansas and Fontana are still under construction. Kansas should be ready for second race in October, but not the first race at that track. Fontana will not be done in time for that race week. Therefore, Rockingham will replace Fontana and Iowa will replace the first Kansas race. We will NOT run the All-star race or race week at Charlotte as part of this series.

Race distance: Half the distance of the real-world race. For example, the Coke 600 will be 300 miles in this series.

iRacing member eligibility: Oval license level D class and above. This will be an oval license class series, even though some scattered road course racing.

Resets: none

Server farms: U.S. server farms only in order to better group participants.

Race car setup: Fixed car setup

Qualifying: Single car 2-lap qualifier 15 minutes before each race. Qualifying not required to enter the race. FYI, qualifying from first race carries to the second race, unless you post a better time in the second qualifying session.

Race warmup time: 10 minutes

Number of races and drop weeks: 34 races with 4 drop weeks.

Field size: 32 cars

Caution Flags: Yes, full course for ovals & local yellows for road courses.

Other competition notes: Will work same way as a standard iRacing Series. Will be 10 standard divisions that are set based on normal procedure before the start of series. (Divsions already set) Splitting will be done by iRating. Gridding will be done by Qualifying and then by iRating. Do not need to qualify to race. The standard iRacing point system in place for series.

Had this same thought last night when practicing Fill-a-Pie-Land in the Skippy. Has that same sort of feel of Interlagos/Spa with flowing 'bravery' corners. I rank this rack highly after some rather hilarious "too brave" attempts. What will be interesting is if, on lap 2, the cars are still pretty close together, someone going off in turn 1 could end up either flying past the leaders or swiping straight through them in turn 2. Oh the Huge Manatee! Twisted Evil

Had a little string of bad luck and self inflicted wounds over the past couple races. In an attempt to salvage some dignity, I ran quite a few Grand Touring races over the weekend. Perhaps the most entertaining was a low SOF race where I went from 5th on the grid to taking the green flag in P1 Suspect Spotter was going nuts trying to sort things out before the pace car pulled off, and impressively, he did.
That gave me an excuse to fire up MSI Afterburner and snag some footage. Original 1080p quality is much better than the posted 720p video shows. Unfortunately Vimeo stuff won't embed, so here's the link: Pace Lap
