Re: Formula 1 2013 - The Official Discussion Thread
Apparently I missed the Force India car release, but have fixed that. Mercedes STILL has not gotten enough tweets to launch their car...
Re: Formula 1 2013 - The Official Discussion Thread
Mercedes launch included. The rest of the field should be revealed over the next day or so because: Jerez.

You missed my original posting for STR, which was "Driver 1: Who cares?, Driver 2: Really, no one cares." I didn't think that was subtle enough though, so I eventually remembered that they had an Oz and a Frenchie.
Re: Formula 1 2013 - The Official Discussion Thread
Added Marussia and Caterham which were revealed this morning at Jerez, as well as updated the Merc picture to be more reflective of what I think their typical performance will be.

Also the green on the Caterham isn't horrible.

I'm surprised no one commented on Kimi's wheel. I thought it was funny. Old joke?

Heh, sorry Goes_to, yeah, it was good, but it was just bombarding me that day on various social networking stops.

Second driver confirmed for Marussia. Makes two rooks in those cars. Careful everyone, he's Brazilian.

Re: Formula 1 2013 - The Official Discussion Thread
I did something I did last year too. Looked at pre-season test times from 2012, to see if there was any way to predict how the season was about to unravel. I remember that I did the same for 2011, to see if you could have predicted the oncoming Vettel-fest. It's always said that it's hard to judge anything from testing, but I was curious if there were any signs.
Not much there really. Mercedes and Lotus looked stronger than they later appeared. Red Bull always lurking... nothing much ever going wrong, and always putting a time in the top 3-4 of the day.
Does a reasonable job, sort of, at predicting who might struggle early, but does little to predict who will be strong.
Then I thought maybe you could analyse the language and body language of the teams to assess whether their confidence or despondence might correlate with later results. Then I remembered how Kimi talks.

My post on the issue of Susie Wolf and, in general, getting more women involved in Motorsports was featured as the Comment of the Day at F1Fanatic.
More ladies interested in the benefits of a pull-rod front suspension? Yes please!

McLaren-Honda turbos? Just like it was when I first started watching racing. Can they dig out a Prost-Senna partnership for full nostalgic effect?

You'd have to settle for Bruno Senna and Nicolas Prost.

Trying to figure out when and where coverage of F1 on NBC will be next weekend. Already unimpressed with NBC. Listings are really uninformative.

NBCSN carries 16 of the races and all of the replay/studio-show/quali/practice that they'll do (over 100 hours on the year, so 5 per event one way or another).
NBC has four races: the Canadian GP in June, and the final three races.

Re: Formula 1 2013 - The Official Discussion Thread
I got the basics, but what I couldn't find was what parts of pre-race bits would be through which media. Quali looked like it would be delayed on NBCSCSDGDSG in the afternoon the next day , but I found allusions that there would be live streaming of the qualifying session. This does not fit well with my ritual of having DVRed qualifying on Saturday mornings with my coffee.
The NBC spots page had no information about their schedule beyond a day or two in advance.

^ shows FP1, FP2, Q, 30 minute pre-race, race, and a 1.5hr "F1 Extra" following the race, all live (I think). Also re-airings of FP2 and Q immediately prior to the race.
This quote from my boy Will Buxton, however, does not bode well:

In reference to the fact that they're going to dumb down coverage for the unwashed masses (similar to Fox coverage, perhaps even worse)Will Buxton wrote:It will frustrate the diehard fans, but we're going to reinforce the basics so we don't alienate anybody.
