A quote attributed to Kaz in that post reads "anyone with a PS3" which seems like good news until you get to reading where you DL the Academy stuff from the PS Store which means it's possibly not being done through GT5 at all.

GT Ac 2012 will be a seperate DL so that anyone with a PS3 can participate... if they're in a participating country. They're calling it GT Academy USA and they called it a National competition. Am not of that Nationality. Sad

The action will then jump from the virtual cars of the PS3 game to actual Nissan sports cars when the winners of the National competition are invited to take part in the intense international Race Camp competition in August

I wonder if that means the NA finalists will attend the same finals as the European finalists. I hope they include Canada this time, it sucks that you guys missed out last time.

Official Nissan FB page confirmed that there will be 4 separate GT Academy winners this year, so the international part just means "to be held in another country". The 4 competitions are Germany, Russia, European, and USA. I'm still holding out for you Canadians, but it's not looking good.

R1600Turbo over at GTP is telling people that there's still hope for Canadians. He said "they" were 90% sure Canada would be in it for this year, so until they post the official rules, there's definitely hope.

The in-game news has the GTAcad '12 promo in it now. Check out the pics - you can spot a GTAcademy edition Leaf! Yay!

A bunch of information on GT Academy: https://www.facebook.com/notes/gt-academy-north-america/gt-academy-2012-frequently-asked-questions/387031914675582

Must be a legal US resident Mad

Other points of interest:

The finals will apparently be decided on one single time trial, event 5 of Week 8. It will be available June 11-24.
The 16 Silverstone finalists from last year are ineligible (good news for me, not so much for some of our friends)
The fastest 32 from event 5 of Week 8 will be flown to the National Finals, and 16 will advance from there to Silverstone (same as last year)

On the GTP forums, R1600Turbo says that his contract with Nissan from last year says that going to Silverstone wouldn't exclude him from future competitions, so, mixed signals.

I approached the Canadian office with a suggestion, from an American? fan, to give the Canadian fans their own contest, of some sort, and was told that the idea will be put before the social interaction team, so keep an eye on Facebook.

Apparently, the Canadian office was willing to spend the money, so that probably means that there were legal issues. Why Europe can do it for a bunch of countries and we can't do it for only two still baffles me.

Canada-wide contesting of any sort is difficult due to some Quebec-specific issues which (perhaps surprisingly) are not entirely language-based.

Whose 'Canadian Office' do you refer to? Sony, Nissan at least would have to be on board.

PlayStation

Also, don't fret too much over any infractions that you see in the replays, so far. I am told the GT team is "watching" them and that we won't have a free hand to do whatever we want, which I presume means that, at some point beyond the non-contest part, a real penalty of some sort will be paid.

However, they were not really aware of some current issues, so if you see things beyond just off-track infractions, let me know.

GTAcad '12 feels a lot like doing the GT5 license tests, except much easier to gold.

Rounds 1-5 and 2-5 include two AI cars each; there's no apparent penalty for hitting them.

It is. It's in GT4 and PSP, so some of us know it quite well. There are several variations to it... the Full course, East, West and the Oval, an egg shaped medium length track with very little banking. Iz gud.

East is the best of the 3 road courses, has some flow and not just stop & go. I'd about put GT4 in quickly to play Motegi for 10 minutes, but I raced some splitscreen there in Forza 4 last week. Razz

http://www.gtplanet.net/new-motegi-screenshots-info-on-gt-academy-rewards-in-gt5/

Any questions about the authenticity of the Twin Ring Motegi screenshot that emerged yesterday can be quickly forgotten, as the image (along with another completely new shot) have been discovered on SCEA’s press site.

The original screenshot is now available in high resolution; you can download the 15-megapixel version here for closer inspection. Another new image of a 2012 Nissan GT-R emerging from one of Motegi’s overpasses can also be seen above.

As pointed out by Jay in GTPlanet’s forums, file names of the respective track screenshots clearly hint at which circuits will be featured in future rounds of GT Academy 2012:

Round 1: Autodromo Nazionale Monza
Round 1: High Speed Ring
Round 2: Rome
Round 2: Special Stage Route X
Round 3: Cape Ring
Round 3: Circuito de Madrid
Round 4: Eiger Nordwand Short Track
Round 4: Road Course – Indy
Round 5: Suzuka Circuit
Round 5: Tokyo R246
Round 6: Eiger Nordwand Short Track
Round 6: The Top Gear Test Track
Round 7: London
Round 7: Special Stage Route 5
Round 8: Circuit de la Sarthe 2009
Round 8: Twin Ring Motegi East Short Course
Finally, Kazunori Yamauchi answered a question via Twitter that many GTPlanet users have been asking: when will you be able to claim the prizes earned in the GT Academy 2012 mini-game in Gran Turismo 5?

Responding in English, Kazunori stated that “all the prizes will be sent out together when the 8 week event is over.” Thanks to all of you who sent this in so quickly!

Correction: at 2-5 I can get a contact penalty; via running straight into the back of an AI car while it's accelerating. If it's braking or turning any contact is allowed with no penalty to me. My best time at 1-5 uses both AI cars for extra turning, I can't get within .15 of that time cleanly.
I think this is an excellent thing to teach via GT Academy.

At four or five tracks without traffic and with turns I got in the top .5% or so overall in 5 runs which isn't too damn bad I think.
