Virtual Support Series | 86 RCBM | Exhibition | Silverstone National | Sunday Jan 19
DriverSports Virtual Support Series
DriverSports is proud to present the Virtual Support Series. This event will use real-world tracks in Gran Turismo 6 to follow along with real-life races. We race on the tracks we're watching the pros race that same weekend. Racers are welcome to join us all season or for any desired event. Lobbies will open at 8:30pm and racing will begin at 9:10pm, all times Eastern.
The car is the Toyota 86 Race Car Base Model '12, improved significantly from stock but not turbocharged, with some variety of possible equipment and setting. In race trim the HUD will show a redline of 8200 rpm and no boost gauge and the Semi-Racing Exhaust will produce a distinctive note, meaning the build of all cars can be verified by anyone via replay. All tires up to and including Sports: Hard tires will be allowed. No driver assists will be allowed. Since ABS is disallowed Racing Brakes should be avoided as they will easily overcome the SH tires.
This 15 race championship will feature three kinds of races, Sprint Races, Double Headers and Solo Enduros.
Sprint Races will run roughly 40 minutes in length with Fast Tire Wear and Fuel Consumption. Qualifying for these races will be a 5 minute 'Race Alone' session, sorted fastest first.
Double Header races will consist of two races, the first race short, the second race longer. The lap times from the pre-race practice session will determine the starting order for the first race and finishing order will be reversed to set the grid for the second race.
Solo Enduro races will combine the completion times from two or more races, called 'stints', to determine an overall finishing order. The lap times from the pre-race practice session will determine the starting order for the first stint and finishing order will be carried over to the grid for the next stint.

Did some practicing tonight, combo iz gud Brake balance adjustment is all but worthless for making any real impact on brake feel. Only question is as a support series, are we running first thing on our virtual Sunday morning? Not that it makes a big difference, more just curiosity. Looking forward to this one.

I think I have 09:00 listed up there. That's what I'll set the room to when I open it, so it'll be about 09:40 when the race starts.

Think I'll open a room and run a few laps, since I don't know how much practice I'll be able to get between 8:30 and 9.

Re: Virtual Support Series | 86 RCBM | Exhibition | Silverstone National | Sunday Jan 19
That was fun. This car races very well. Plenty of lockups with no ABS, but just my 1 spin. Lots of passing, mostly because the draft is quite strong.
That layout is neat.
Tire wear was starting to have an effect on grip. 7s and 8s on mine, but I had 1 spin on lap 21. We were down to 1/8 tank of fuel. There might be some faster tracks where a splash and go will be necessary during a 40 min race.
We had a bug where I was sent to qualify on CS tires. I pitted right away and it wouldn't even let me switch to SH, so we bailed and restarted, after which all went well.
Post race discussion figures there's not much difference to be felt from brake balance settings. This might have to do with the fact that we're not using racing brakes.

Re: Virtual Support Series | 86 RCBM | Exhibition | Silverstone National | Sunday Jan 19
Good fun last night. It's been a long time since I've been in traffic with serious GT draft. A few lockups and too late braking from myself. Also an awful lot more to think about than usual.
"Can I move now with the crazy closing speed or will he be alongside. Oh shit that was the brake zone". That a few times.
Good times.

Re: Virtual Support Series | 86 RCBM | Exhibition | Silverstone National | Sunday Jan 19
My hats off to you Mr F, this series is gonna be a blast. Draft did seem a bit strong, but with the rest of the regs being what they are, there ended up being plenty of other opportunities to make/lose time.
Pack kinda ebbed and flowed, really thought when you and timney looked like you were closing, a four way lead battle was inevitable. Had a hell of a lot of fun last night and can't wait for this to go official on Sunday.

Welcome to Round 1 of the DriverSports VSS at Daytona International Speedway in support of the TUSC 24 Hours at Daytona. After the watches have been handed out we will take to the high banks for a Double Header, 10 laps under the hot sun, then 20 laps under the hot lights.
The room will open at 8:30pm Eastern. The track is then immediately open for qualifying as the practice session lap times will determine the starting grid for the first race. The finishing order of race 1 will be reversed to set the grid for race 2. Fuel use could be a factor with the long stretches of full throttle.
