DriverSports Virtual Support Series | Round 1 | Autumn Ring | Sun Feb 23

DriverSports Virtual Support Series

Welcome to the DriverSports Virtual Support Series. This series, evolving the previous 86-only event into our new TTTC class, will utilize real-world tracks in Gran Turismo 6 to follow along with real-life races. We'll be racing on the tracks we're watching the pros race that same weekend. Racers are welcome to join us all season or for any desired event. Registration closes at 8:30 pm, lobbies open at 8:40 pm and racing will begin at 9:10pm, all times Eastern. Room Hosts will send out Friends List invites as soon as divisions are sorted.

This 12 race Championship (preceded by 1 exhibition race) will feature three kinds of races - Sprint Races, Double Headers and Solo Enduros. There will be up tp 4 championship points drops applied to a drivers worst finishes at the end of the season meaning best eight event results are awarded championship points.

Sprint Races will run roughly 40 minutes in length with Normal Tire Wear and Fuel Consumption. Qualifying for these races will be a 5 minute 'Race Alone' session, sorted fastest first.

Double Header races will consist of two races, the first race short, the second race longer. The lap times from the pre-race practice session will determine the starting order for the first race and finishing order of the first race will determine the grid for the second race.

Solo Enduro races will combine the completion times from two or more races, called 'stints', to determine an overall finishing order. The lap times from the pre-race practice session will determine the starting order for the first stint and finishing order will be carried over to the grid for the next stint.

Registration for each race will be open until 8:30pm Eastern. Divisions will be created as participation dictates, and will be sorted by championship points standings.

Tin-Top Touring Cars

TTTC is designed to approximate the BTCC and WTCC touring car classes with specific two-wheel drive production based race cars with moderate aero and a maximum engine capacity of 2000 cc. All cars are lobby-regulated to a maximum of 325 horsepower, a minimum weight of 1120 kg and 477 maximum Performance Points, as well as specific exhaust and redline cues for competitive balance. Eligible cars are the Honda Integra Type R (DC5) Touring Car '04, the Toyota 86 Race Car Base Model '12 and the Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 Base Model '08, all of which are fully detailed premium models. All tires up to Race Hard (including wet weather tires) will be allowed and ABS will be the only available assist.

Lobby-Regulations:
325 hp max
1120 kg min
477 PP max

HUD Regulations:
Beyond the lobby-regulations each car is limited to a specific redline, boost gauge and exhaust note that will be verified by replay. Your car must display the following statistics and emit the listed exhaust sound.

Toyota 86 Race Car Base Model '12

Redline: 8000 rpm
Exhaust Sound: Semi-Racing
Boost gauge: None

Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 Base Model '08

Redline: 6500 rpm
Exhaust Sound: Semi-Racing
Boost gauge: Normal

Honda Integra Type R (DC5) Touring Car '04

Redline: 9400 rpm
Exhaust Sound: Racing
Boost gauge: None

Any combination of parts and settings within the Lobby-Regulations and the HUD Regulations may be used. Parts, ballast and power limiter must be used to get as close to these figures as possible. Some cars may not maximize all three regulations.

Suggested Engine Build:

Testing data was gathered with the following legal builds, which display the proper HUD statistics and are the most direct way to maximize each car within the lobby-regulations. The use of some different parts and resulting limiters or settings is possible on some cars, though not recommended. Always verify your redline, boost gauge and exhaust and ability to enter the room hp/kg/pp regulations. Statistics and Power Limiter settings were obtained on a 0.0km car after an oil-change.

Toyota 86 Race Car Base Model '12

Engine Tuning: Stage 3
Computer: Sports Computer
Exhaust: Semi-Racing
Exhaust Manifold: Isometric Exhaust Manifold
Catalytic Converter: Standard
Intake: Intake Tuning
Turbo Kit: Normal
Power Limiter: 97.2%
477PP, 320hp, 1120kg

Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 Base Model '08

Engine Tuning: Standard
Exhaust: Semi-Racing
Exhaust Manifold: Standard
Catalytic Converter: Standard
Intake: Standard
Turbo Kit: Normal
Power Limiter: 94.3%
477PP, 316hp, 1120kg

Re: DriverSports Virtual Support Series | Round 1 | Autumn Ring | Sun Feb 23

Post  timneyb on Sat Feb 15, 2014 4:34 pm

I tested all three cars, 2 sets of 5-10 laps with some basic setup tweaking. I was slightly faster with the FFs, but not by much. The RWD 86GT might well come back at them in the second half of the race. Should be interesting. FYI, the Integra is the only one with adjustable toe. I'll be driving what is slower and/or less popular.

All cars are grey or icy blue for what I can see out of my window in February, with fugly pink or orange wheels for required fugliness.

Totally meaningless, but sitting here reading specs on the Vdub in the dealership and the rear wing keeps changing back and forth between black and white.

Totally meaningless, but is that with the car painted black or white?

Either. Just cycles randomly. Thought maybe that meant body color wing with the right paint color, but no dice.

Also tested a bit tonight and that Vdub is strong even late in the race. No fuel or tires needed.

Couple of hiccups had us abort the first start. Took a few laps off, re'q'd in a 2 minute session and raced on. Lost g44 towards the end of the race.

86es get off the line really well, the FFs not so much. Ben and I were side by side in to 1 and we bumped a little, but kept it together. Roo slid pas Ben and got on my tail. I lead for a bunch of laps. Roo did get by me and I chased him hard for 10 or so laps, staying within 1 second. In to the teen laps I started to slip and slid a little more and gave up a little more time, back to 3 seconds. I made one minor bobble when I put it up on two wheels hitting the curb on the left hander on the back side of the course and gave roo 2 more seconds. The race was roos to win, but on the penultimate lap he came to a near stop just before the last corner, so I went passed him and Ben picked up second. Roo recovered from a sticking brake pedal for third.

The VW is probably a little quicker than the other two, but we'll have to see how this plays out on different courses.

Not bad. I was about .5 sec off what I was in solo practice in slightly fresher physical condition. Not as fast as Roo's VW, but this will be interesting at some tracks.

Oops, I got a good jump off the line and went past the two FF cars in the first two grid spots so quickly that I completely forgot to even look left at all.

Yeah, that was closer overall than I was expecting clap Always a bummer when you get dropped from a lounge, but at least it didn't totally explode. On that aborted first start, my wheel decided to cut out for the third time in as many weeks.  Looks like a wheel rebuild is in my future. Hello Electro-motive.

Small field, but the second race with group proved you only need one guy to make it a great race.

Too true, that was a blast. So Roo and his mighty Vdub took the top of the podium in both races. Congrats to you Cool

First race I managed to loop it on lap one, was pretty quiet after that. Second race I gave timney a tough time until the last couple laps. My front tires were down to 6's, and it quickly became clear he'd done a better job of tire management. Way to go two 2nd places.

Yeah, there seemed to be a distinct lack of handling once the tires hit 6s. I got to 6s on both fronts halfway through the last lap, and thought "woah, I don't want to be on these much longer".

I noticed I drove squarer out of the corners, using less exit width, although the downside was being clearly slower leaving the first hairpin, the turn onto the Mini home straight and out of the corkscrew. That wasn't helped by a crappy 2nd to 3rd gear placement though.

Fun track with these sorts of cars, where you really have to work for a pass.

Full credit to Rooster. I got into that VW for a quick stint to see what I was up against, and didn't instantly go faster.

So, is this series cancelled or what?  I'm not sure about my attendance for tonight due to Kenworth complications, but there seems to be a lack of interest, not even a post about this week's event. Just wondering.

Forgetful achieved full burnout, and we figured you might be not able to run, which makes a real thin race.
