Indycars '13
There's at least three of us paying some attention to this series, so thread time before we clog the F1 thread or something.
Who likes the '13 schedule? I do. Other than I'd maybe slot Sonoma into February or early March (whenever it's greenest).

Re: Indycars '13
Love that 13 of 20 races are on Road/Street circuits. Like that I can spend June camping without worrying too much about missing races I want to see because while I've changed my mind about oval racing via iRacing, I still don't care to watch it much, except of course Indy. Double headers, interesting...
Would love to see more than 3 Road courses, Indy street tracks aren't as exciting, but maybe that's just because F1 only has 2 (maybe 3 next year with Jersey Shore), in Monaco and Singapore (Valencia is gone, and Canada/Australia hardly count...). IndyCars also just look like they are going in slow motion around street circuits for lack of downforce.
Definitely going to be watching next year, IndyCar was a pleasant surprise in 2012 and the ability to watch all races on YouTube is incredible.

Agreed
nnnnnnooooooooo don't make them have more downforce, then they'll need a flappy paddle rear wing to pass anyone.

Unclear if complaint real or facetious...
I don't have a preference one way or the other to be honest, they already have push to pass. I don't see why teams can't impliment variable aerodynamics. I don't love how F1 has it implimented, but cars side by side in braking zones is exciting regardless of how they manufacture it.

Re: Indycars '13
Downforce is why they can't get side-by-side without some sort of manufacturing - they literally can't follow closely enough to make it plausible to take a stab.
Witness for comparison stuff like the Continental Tire series or any motorbike race - they don't have any downforce to lose therefore they can (and often do) follow as closely as they dare.

Let's double funding for NASA. Goal: car racing without pesky atmosphere.

Yes, I am not actually a moron...
I just mean - I love watching F1 cars on street circuits because what they do seems impossible. It is possible because of downforce. The racing in Indy, especially on road circuits is amazing because of lack of downforce (see, Mid-Ohio 2012 Indy race, ermagerd). Street Circuit racing in IndyCar just doesn't do it for me.
Moar road courses IMO.
Edited for F1 content...

Doesn't really do it for anybody except the people who are there within the noise radius.

- Ya Canadian driver FTW!
Good race, plenty of racing for position, defending and passing. The tire drop off was good. Simona is a lot more likable than Danica.
Too many electrical problems across the board. For a series that's supposed to have a measure of cost control, they certainly are hanging on to a few of these technical gadgets that are causing more trouble than they should. Electric clutches, throttle by wire and anti-stall all caused failures today. Those front wings are pretty frail.
I thought the pods were supposed to prevent cars climbing eachother. That's how Krosnoff was killed in Toronto, albeit at race speed.

Re: Indycars '13
I really enjoyed the race. I've never been interested in Indy, but my uncle is a General and has a ton of access to the National Guard Team and got us VIP access, so it was a great opportunity to enjoy the race. I don't watch a lot of Indy but will probably begin to watch a lot more, especially since the majority of the series is going to be run on road courses.
I was really rooting for Simona. I ran into her a few times in the pits today and shes a pretty stout Chickie. She drove a hell of a race and it looked like she just used up her tires a bit too much on that last stint. I'm just finishing up watching the F1 race so now I'm going to check the Indy race on tv to hear what I missed by being there.
Good times today!

Last night we had dinner with the Panther Racing team owner, during dinner we talked a lot about the cars and the side pods specifically. He didn't really have any answers of why they went to the pods, but then again he wasn't very talkative because his driver had a horrible qualifying session and he was pissed about it. If only he knew that during the race his driver was going to jump over Will Power we probably would have choked on his linguini and clams.

Oh man, 'Hillibranding' has got to be a thing now, doesn't it? I thought that only happened on iRacing.
Look at you rubbing elbows with racing big wigs... gonna get some money together and take that SM to the pros, or what? I'm volunteering everyone here to crew for you.

I am 110% on board with this plan. Every Indycar team seems to have 1 fat guy who sprays the fuel filler cap with a water hose as the car drives off.
I can be that fat guy.

Re: Indycars '13
I'll watch the TV feeds and listen to the scanners. So basically what I do at home, just in the pits.

It's even more fun to drive than it is to watch. SNET has Quali live as well as the Indy Lights race this weekend.

Well, quali wasn't live on SNET. I wasn't even on at all... Surprise, surprise, a tennis match went long.

Full race at Barber.
Really far and away the best part of Indycar.
