My wife is out with the girls, so I'm off the rig until she gets back. When I'm in rig mode I can't hear if my little guy needs me. Hopefully she gets home soon!

You're Nigel then? Glorious. Nice to meet you! No worries, I hadn't put 2 and 2 together, even though I am... fairly certain I would have been the one to put your name on the roster. No worries at all!

The wife's home!
See you all at the 10:15 race if you decide to race that is. Otherwise I'll be looking for practice and may hit the 9:45 qualifying session.

Will be in the 10:15 (Eastern) race. LOL'd.
Just ran the 6:15 race... I uh... so in Eau Rouge on Lap 1 my rear left tire hit someone's rear right tire, I flew up in to the air, landed, near as I could tell in one piece, no harm done to either car, let guy go ahead of me, out braked him on the inside of Les Combes, finished 7/14 after starting 14th. Now if i could stop dropping wheels off the outside of Rivage and Blanchimont...
Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
Cool, sounds like a cool race
On another note, I had two separate 48's going in qualifying, but goofed my entry into 14 each time....frustration!! I will get a no draft 48 before the week is over dammit!
See you on the track soon!

Damn, didn't realise you were hitting that race guys, otherwise I would have joined
I did manage a draft free 1'48.7 in practice though, which is 0.1 off my Optimal, so all I need to do now is make the most of this pace unlike Phillip Island, lol.
Did manage to watch part of the race you guys were in and it was a real shame to see you spin John. You were having a good battle!
Nige.

Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
I'm really bummed I spun too. I had pace on Leo, but he filled my mirrors on the first two laps and I wasn't used to that here and it made me nervous so he got by. My plan was to follow him and hope he'd make a mistake then draft by him on the last lap or 2nd to last lap; which I did, then I successfully out broke myself.
I'm still upset.
You may twist my arm to go into the 11:15 race even though I don't like racing after 11 since I'm old and sleepy.

What the hell....I'm going for it.
Bummer you can't make it, but maybe I'll give you something to watch while you're eating good food.
Edit: I saw Leo signed up, so I want some redemption!!!

Yep, I hadn't even thought about doing it until Nigel brought it up. Was easier than expected.
2'51.8 Optimal now, 2'52.4 best lap. Best time in the practice session I was in, 2'47.7.
HOW U DO DIS!?

Haha, because alien. My optimal is at 48.2 after I got some decent tows. The drafting at Spa is almost like GT draft, if someone is within a second behind you, you better believe they'll catch up 5-6 tenths before you are braking. It's kind of frustrating really.
I'm still a bit annoyed after last nights races. I had two possible wins and gave each away with 1 dumb mistake in each race. I had two 2nd's and not too many incidents, so I should be happy; but I'm pissed at my brain fart mistakes.
I guess this proves that I'm a true competitor and hate to lose.
It's okay to lose to some alien who runs consistent 47's the whole race, but when you take yourself out of the race it's pretty frustrating.
Looks like I've got more redemption races coming at me.

This. Running 5th at Spa putting in 54/53s all race, 20 seconds to 4th, 30 seconds to 6th, final lap, stuffed my car in to the barrier because brain fart at Rivage.
Running 3rd at Legume Sega, keeping 1.5 second gap for first 5 laps to 4th, bobble a bit through the first right hander to avoid going off, 4th place closes up on me, we do 3 more laps about .3 seconds apart, nothing in us for pace all race, and dude decides to not break for turn 5, punches me off the road and keeps on going like nothing happened. MX-5 bumpers are some of the most amazing in the world. Finish 7th.
Despite all of this, SR working back up, goal is 3.0 and a Class C license by promotion day so I will be able to legally Lotus 49.
Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
Sounds like we had similarly frustrating nights.
Who is on tonight? Anyone running the 500 or planning to hit Spa again?

I'll be on though prolly not in the Skip. I tried a few times like with you guys the other night and it's a bit too tough for me at this point. Ran Spa in the SRF last night and didn't do too bad. started 10th? and finished 6th. Woulda done a bit better if I hadn't got bumped twice. Sounds funny for me to say but it's a fun car and stable lol. Wasn't saying that in December though. Had my SR down to 1.3 like William. Gonna run it tomorrow night too if it still goes

Will be on tonight, do intend to run the Daytona 500 (because... no life?) in my Netcode sponsored #49 car ( ) and will be racing Spa more. I must have my revenge...
And hey Tracy, the other day when were in the practice room, you know my "Tracy!!!!!!!!!" message was just a bit of teasing right? That was my fault for following you so close on a recon lap and you didn't respond in chat, so just wanted to be sure you weren't offended/upset.
Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
Lol, heck no . I was actually happy that you were driving like me. Definitely better than me, but going off track where I do and so on. Thought I said something but I guess not...I knew you didn't just run into me and I was being tentative. Don't have the hang of Skippy trail braking at all. DSO guys are the last guys I would get pissed atHWKII wrote:SpecMiata-JSW wrote:Who is on tonight? Anyone running the 500 or planning to hit Spa again?

I attacked Spa like a maniac this week and got from 2'56s to 2'52s. 2'51.1 optimal now.
I have a setup that is pretty neutral and fits my style well; 55% Brake Balance, rear ARB at 8, pressure at 24 on all 4 tires, perch set to equalize the ride height (as close as possible with the front a touch lower than the rear). At my level of talent, trail braking is really tough to pull off. What I find helps on a couple of corners around Spa (and other high speed corners around the world) is to give both throttle and brake input which keeps the rear end stable. Especially useful going through Pouhon and swearing corner just before Pouhon.
Eau Rouge and Turn 18 (Blanchimont? Post Blanchimont?) are flat. I come out of the bus stop and La Source in 1st...
Not going to lie, after the first night, forearms were sore. I might have crushed the steering wheel...

Deletes long post.
Interesting, but unsurprising that it can't be perfectly fair to everyone's thinking. Also, seems they just reproduced what iRacing told you: that points are proportional to SOF, and races split.
If I sucked less I would care about points I need to get my heart out of my mouth and just drive when there are other cars on the track, then I'll be able to actually enjoy this enough to compete.
I have an idea that's so complicated that nobody would trust it, where you just looked at the IRs of the drivers that you actually saw during the race (i.e. your points weren't effected by the alien that started on pole, had a 5000 iRating, and you never saw).

Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
Sometimes I think the f3 button is worse than the mirror. I had 3rd locked up and had 3 laps to go and then saw I had a guy behind me 5 seconds back but not gaining. So I say "okay, it's yours, just drive and you'll be fine." So of course I take the first oppotunity and spin . Then he's 5 seconds in front of me lol. Talked myself right into it. I broke the mirror driving habit, so I gotta break this one too. I'm getting better in traffic but I guess I still got lotsa work to do to be better .timneyb wrote:Deletes long post.

Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
Thursday night I read up on and properly adjusted my FOV. I didn't realize how important this was. I had been running a low 70* setting so I could see my gauges and a bit to either side, as if my TV were a little concave. However, once I used the FOV calculator in the Graphics setting menu (which I had mistaken as settings for Triple screens), it game me a 50* angle for the distance I was away from my screen vs. the width of the viewing area. Now, this moved me right up to the point where my gauges were off screen and I could only see to the sides forward of the A pillar. Granted I lost some peripheral and my gauges, but what I also lost was an exaggerated sense of speed that comes from using too high of a viewing angle. The car slowed down a bit and the edges of the car came closer too me. I just ran my first race like this and I was able to get much closer to the other cars in traffic. It really is important to set the proper FOV and spend the time to adjust to it. Took me about 10 laps to readjust the old brain, but once it clicked I was right back up to speed. It didn't make me any faster, but I feel a little bit more comfortable with my car placement.
To make up for the lost gauges I'm using Shiftone. It's sweet. That has taken away my habit of staring at the needle when I get near the shift point, especially in cars like the SRF and Mustang where you don't go near the redline. That means I'm distracted less. Now, I too have a bad F3 addiction, but with this latest development I now find the amount I look at the gaps is not taking away from my driving as I've also been trying to train myself to only check it at certain spots on the track. This can alleviate some of the anxiety that comes with knowing the gaps, because if you check it at different places in the lap it can be misleading, as the gap is susceptible to the accordion effect over large distances and different speed corners.

Gonna look in to this tonight, I suffer badly from needle watching.
