Re: Gran Turismo 6 general
Dunno, there's a thread at GTP where people are comparing. Wheel wells don't look like they were cut with a jigsaw on the Rufs, I know that.

As a tried and true disc owner this makes me mad. I want my copy today, not tomorrow. I turn into an impatient 6 year old when it comes to new GT releases.

Re: Gran Turismo 6 general
Fuck discs. There, I said it.
I've had too many failed lenses interfere with new games on the first day to want any more optical devices. I had to buy GTA V twice because my PS3 won't run the disc version without freezing. Plays GT5 and RDR from disc no problemo, but I'm just not going to risk it anymore. Besides, the shelf of old game cases is full... and dusty... and full of old useless junk.

Touche sir, touche. I never looked at it like that, of course I sort of wanted all those pretty blue cars from the 15th Anniversary Edition.
Of course now you've got me thinking about the download....but I made plans tonight because I wasn't going to have the game. Dammit man.

And I don't want the anniversary cars because I was always too chicken to modify or even drive the special cars.

Re: Gran Turismo 6 general
Won't it take 55 years to download the all that data on the PS3? My speed is decent, but 30GB or something is huge.
Will the downloaded version be faster to load than the disc, and if you delete it accidentally do you have to buy it again? I don't plan to delete it, but I was just curious as I've never downloaded a purchasable game before.
Thanks for the info and tips. Game stop may have just lost my business.

It will take several hours to DL, from my experience with GTA V. It might load a little faster, but I think those kinds of gains are made when you go from a HDD to a Solid State Drive.SpecMiata-JSW wrote:Won't it take 55 years to download the all that data on the PS3? You can re-dl any purchases made from the PSN store.

Re: Gran Turismo 6 general
Got a text message from GameStop that my copy is ready to pick up tomorrow... I guess I should pick up a PS3 while I'm down there, huh? ...
Re: Gran Turismo 6 general
Downloaded it last night while I slept and woke up at 5:00 to get some sweet GT6 time in before work. So far it's effing epic. I'm very impressed, of course I've only done a few low license races and driven over a shitload of cones in an MX-5, but it was awesome.

Second; the future is pre-DLing everything and then DLing a 100kb key when 'release' happens, leaving discs for the $200 complete edition collectors.Forgetful wrote:Fuck discs. There, I said it.

Also; what's weirder: a new game release on a Friday, or GT not being delayed?

So far so fun!
Loving the new progression system. Didn't love that they make you start with a Fit, but I sold it as soon I had the credits to get a FR-S, which was just three races. Won't spoil anything since there are some neat things that I was surprised by.

Re: Gran Turismo 6 general
Picked up GT6 on my way home from work... instructions unclear; cannot install on PC.
Time to find my broken PS3 and find out if it wants to work again, or if I need to buy a replacement (used PS3s are going for about as much as the bloody Blu-Ray drives these days...)

Re: Gran Turismo 6 general
Briefly live, and then gone again... Ok, finding a new drive. Might as well pick up an SSD while I'm at it...

No break-in phase, but you do gain performance with the 1st oil change, likely due to magic racing oil.
All modifications can be removed. Engine mods, weight reductions... all of it.

Gotta say turning off the TC and ABS every couple minutes is still a bit tedious, but overall I do like the changes PD have made. Force feedback may not be as lively as it is in iR, but it feels ok and communicates better than I remember GT5 doing. I'm also enjoying the 'feel' of the brakes locking up for some strange reason. Certainly no quantum leaps from last time, but at least at face value its a more polished effort imo. It is unfortunate they still haven't made the sound significantly better, though my first real purchase sounds reasonable enough stock. Wrangled myself a '78 Firebird to start off with (the entry price being fully justified by that shiny gold dash alone) and have been enjoying myself since.

Re: Gran Turismo 6 general
No break in is awesome news indeed. iRacing has spoiled me for feeling of the car, but I think that Assetto Corsa probably takes the cake for feeling the weight of the car shifting in your hands. Having now spent ~30 hours driving for reelz, I get more of what the wheel is trying to tell me. The only downside to AC (I bought it on Steam after I found out I couldn't play GT6 without fixing my PS3... wait... replace bluray drive for $90 or just pay $60 to buy the digital download... also BAH PS3, why can't I digitally download games I already own the disk for? I hate you...)
What was I saying?
Oh, the downside of AC is that I think the tires of made of glue because for the life of me, I can't seem to spin a car. AC is gorgeous, and runs better to boot than rF2. But dat grip... The Lotus 49 feels planted and safe which ... seems wrong.
