My iRating is way too high for my ability anyway, I guess participating in SRF races will correct that pretty quick.
As to the scoring system I believe nothing is perfect but whatever it is it has to encourage to race a lot to keep participation high. I read in some thread on the iRacing forum that they plan to change the scoring and count only the 25% highest scored races instead of 50%. For me that goes into the right direction, lets hope it was not just a rumor.
The 25% scoring will allow people to run more races with out hurting their high scores, so it should mean more races that split, and thus higher SOFs in the higher splits, but you'll still need to be in the right place at the right time to score the highest possible points.
But hey, there are official series and championships and they are built-in and well run, and all of that I'm very happy to have.

I agree, precious... GOLLUM!Forgetful wrote:Anyway, came to post ttosay the fanatac is back and everything is working the way it should. I can now run my pedals independent from the wheel so my ABS FFB will go to the brake pedal now. Squeeeeee!
... Fanatec is probably going on the Christmas list... Expect many questions!
Let me get back on the Fanatec to have a better all around sense of the Logi-feel vs the Fana-feel. I was surprised at how good the G25 did as a sub, I just hope I don't feel let down going back to the fanatec.

I like shiny things...
Very tempted to look in to a Fanatec with the F1 style wheel.

attempted a race in the InRacingNews Challenge but was the only Solstice among 15 MX-5s. So I didn't even laeave the pit and let the MX-5s battle it out. Nevertheless I have now another win under my belt in my Career Stats.
Seriously, they should not count races where you are the only car. It's too hard to not win such a race.

It does happen in real racing from time to time. I got one in the P & GTC driving the Ford GT

Sometimes wish I could get one of those lol. Ran yesterday and lap 2 yellow flag got creamed in the back. Guy never even hit the brakes...geez.
Also, VK where did you put that "car setups" link. I can't find it to save my butt .
Thanks, Wall

Shouldn't have to create a folder as iRacing creates them upon installation. For me its: Libraries > Documents > iRacing > setups. You should see a folder for each car that you can then save the .sto file to. It will then show in your list of setups next time you load the sim.
Go to the Garage tab once you are at a track, click the My Setups button and you should see the new tune as a choice when prompted to load a setup. Just double click the file name to load it up. There's a vid in the resources section too if I'm not making sense.

Re: Season 3 - Starts 30/07/12
Well there is a folder in Libraries, Docs. There isn't any iracing after it though, and it's an Adobe file that can't be read for some reason. It does have the .sto at the end. Where is the "resource" that you mentioned? Also, when I first tried to load a setup, I got an error message that windows didn't know what program to use blahblahblah. It then directed me to a "fix" page that would take care of it and allow the sto files to be read. All 4 "fixes" were from microsoft, but I was a little leary.

EDIT* K, I got it lol. Dumped what I had, then tried it again. Didn't realize the iracing folder I had, had a setups folder innit. Dragged the loaded setup into it, then just put it in setups, solstice. Went on track and it's there. Thanks G. Don't know if there's an easier way to drag and drop it, but it'll do.

I'd be seriously disappointed if they don't already make Road Atlanta shaped foam fingers.

Re: Season 3 - Starts 30/07/12
For the first time I got disconnected during a race and I was pretty frustrated over it. I survived the first lap w/o contact and was in the lead over the 3 other Solstices taking it easy for a win and a safety rating increasse when it happened.
I quit and closed the explorer; after taking a deep breath I re-accessed iRacing and to my surprise I could still or better again join the race. So I did just that, found myself in towing for 30 more seconds and when I left the pit I was just passed by the first Solstice. Wow I thought I might still be able to win this. And indeeed the other Solstice was so slow that I regained the lead within one lap and cruised to victory 3 laps down from the MX-5 winner.
It only shows, never give up!

Very interesting vk. I thought I'd seen racers get back in after being disco'd, but I guess I figured they just came back to watch. Thanks for the heads up as that could advert a nasty iRating hit in the future.

I've rejoined the race myself after being net-booted partway through, joined a race I didn't make the start of due to internet drop, and lost a race to someone who got booted and subsequently rejoined.

You're in a session until you withdraw or forfeit, or it ends. You can always come and go. Handy when you enter a race to find your wheel unplugged. Rather than rerun the calibration, I exit, turn on the wheel and then rejoin and it usually reverts to the prior settings.

Re: Season 3 - Starts 30/07/12
attended my first SRF race this morning; started 2nd and finished 3rd out of 12. The race wasn't very fast but I got through it incident free.
I gained 0.07 safety rating just to lose the same in a q-attempt one hour later
It's actually fun; the car is still scary but I like the fact that I compete now with all cars and not only a few like in those multiclass races.

Re: Season 3 - Starts 30/07/12
Looks like I'm done with Season 3. I'm watching two dudes debate tonight (as my business depends on it) then tomorrow night I'm packing for Petit LeMans so I won't make it to Daytona in the Stang. I'm kind of bummed as I wanted to race there and grab a few more points, but it looks like it's not in the cards.
Congrats to those who all raced and had fun in Season 3. See you dudes on track for Week 13 and season 4.

I'm having a good time with the SRF. I can't sustain my iRating but am hopeful to stabilize around 2500; more importantly the racing is real good; grids > 10, fairly close and very clean so far (knocks on wood).
I definitely stick to it for season 4 and already bought the tracks I need.

Re: Season 3 - Starts 30/07/12
a good starting position certainly paid off in that race
I expected you rather sooner than later in my mirror, but instead I saw the carnage in T1 and had a pretty event free race all the way to the finish line. The leader was too fast and consistent for me to challenge him and everything behind me didn't get through T1.
Gotta say I'm having a blast with iRacing in general and the SRF specifically. Tons of races to choose from throughout the day all week long makes me spend a lot of time behind my G27. Oh well, I'll enjoy it while it lasts, soon enough work will force me back to travel.
It was great to see another DriverSports driver on the grid, I hope for a repeat soon.

Gridded 6th. Good. Hit from behind while avoiding T1 carnage. Meh. Continue on to first right hander at CMS and get a PIT maneuver from someone who thought my outside rear quarter looked like the apex Flip over wall, tow in, repairs and now 16th End up passing 5th by .04 at the line for the checker flag. Result sheet says I started 6th and finished 5th

Re: Season 3 - Starts 30/07/12
Ran laps in a practice session last yesterday at okay full. I've been playing around with some of the setups including my own with disastrous results. I'll just say I won't be getting the "C" license on schedule. I was havin a hell of a time cornering without coming around, and grabbed one of those Racesetups.com setups and did a little better, but not great. I tweeked it a bit and got better results with lap times around low 153's. Then I watched some of the other drivers and there was one guy who was pulling low 149's. So I'm watchin him and noticed he's braking much later than I am and not breaking the tires loose at all. I mean where I was braking at 100 (like the back straight), he's goin to the 50. Is there an ABS setting I don't know about? He was hittin 110 mph at least and had to be standin on the brakes to stop so quickly, and like I said, no tire noise at all or lose of control.

I too have noticed how much later some drivers are able to brake, and don't fully get it either. Worked on that a bit at CMS into T1, and was able to come a little closer to the fast guys by moderating how quickly I got on the brakes. Seemed to me if I got all the weight transfer done with a light pedal effort and then clamped em down as I was downshifting, I was able to go a bit deeper and still get it slowed down under control. Was still very easy to lock up the tires though. As I have recently turned off the auto blip throttle feature, I tend to think there was probably as much of a gain with that change as there was with concentrating more on my foot work. Also, the more I drive without the auto blip, the better I am getting at maintaining some throttle through the corners to help keep the chassis balanced and the back end in check. Still got miles to go before I can keep pace with those pesky 's.

Re: Season 3 - Starts 30/07/12
I pretty much gave up on breaking as late as the fast guys. Breaking late is not worth the risk for me.
Keeping momentum and being smooth seems to be more important for my lap times anyway.

Re: Season 3 - Starts 30/07/12
My first win in the SRF, but I'm not overly proud. I was in the lead but under pressure from behind when I lost control in lap 24 of 25. The guy behind me ran right into me and when I got back on track I was still in the lead. I was told that I had too much damage and need to pit, but I ignored it and went onto the last lap and could bring home the victory.
The guy who ran into me was not so lucky and finished 6th. I apologized after the race, what else could I do.
Still happy about the win.
