Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
Woulda joined ya if I'd known lol. I was cooked after that race though. Started 8th, had an avoidance spin which put me last and made it thru the field back to 3rd. Was closin on 2nd and spun the second sharp left. Lost one spot and the next lap did it again...dammit. I'm thinkin my rears were too hot. I had my back pressures at 24 so I was wondering about bumpin that up. I also have my bias set at 56 I think which I'm not sure if that had enough of an affect to cause extra heat. Which prompts another question...is there any way to have the tire status update besides switchin on and off?HWKII wrote:Tracy, since I can' send you a chat message, I am heading to a practice room for a bit.

I thought that info only updates after a pit stop, or when you cross the line (like how the Standings screen only re-orders you after you cross the line) but I could be wrong. I have been running 24/24 and noticed no benefit in time from going to 29/29 or 22/22. At 22 the car felt a bit sloppy and lacked grip for the 3/4th gear corners, and at 29/29 I found myself much more likely to spin in the 2nd gear corners.
24/24 felt juuuuuuuust right.
That Jason guy who rammed me out on lap 7 sounded like he was a serious handful to everyone who was racing him. I like good close wheel to wheel racing, and have no qualms about late braking a guy if I'm properly setup for it (Like with Stephen at Spa) but he was more.. Brazillian in his approach.
Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
Tire temps and pressures are only read after the tires come off the car, so either after a pit stop or at the end of a run.

Why bother Q'ing at all. Grid in second and still get wailed. Bullshit...complete bullshit. Then I lose 50+ off irating so I stay in the low end with all the idiots. Just ranting/venting but it still gets old.

Ya, I got sideswiped on the way in to t1 on l1 at Charlotte in the last race. Bent wheel before the first corner, ended up getting loose in under braking a few laps later, so I parked it. Female driver for the lazy stereotypes.

Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
One of you especially talented folks wants to send me a telemetry file for Skippy @ Okayama? It's driving me nuts that my optimum is 1'00.3 but I cannot get anywhere close to that.
Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
If you use iSpeed you can look up mine, I think I had it running during some sessions. I didn't look at anyone else's laps, but realized I should have been going to 1st in the two hairpins rather than staying in second. I have no idea why it took watching the replay of the dude that smoked me to figure it out.
If you do have iSpeed look me up, most likely there is a :59.3 or .4 in there.
If you don't have iSpeed it's great and a quick download. Good luck in Japan. It's crazy out there!

Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
Managed to get my best lap down to a 1'00.8XX, but still 1'01.3XX far more likely. Only thing I can figure is later/better braking. Telemetry tells me that I am getting my tires very hot and almost all of the heat in the center with my tires at 24 PSI all the way around. Dropped to 18 and have much more consistent temperature and more even distribution. What makes no sense is how much less grip it feels like the car has, even though pretty obviously the contact patch is bigger.
Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
Too soft and the tire gets mushy. I've been drivin myself crazy trying to get the outsides nearer the middle temp wise but with the camber I don't think it can happen because the outs don't have the contact except during cornering. That's why too soft is bad too because of the tire "rolling over" onto the side walls. I was runnin 19's and 18's and thought "well this is how the car is and I'll have to learn to drive it ...or not lol". The Roo put up what he did with the pressures and it made a huge difference imo, and I think you even commented you saw it. The different pressures front to back make a difference too. I think I dropped to 27F and 23R for this track and I like the results. My temps were high 130's to low 140's. Lower bias/late braking helps obviously. I run 55 bias and get very little spin any more with some practice. Best lap so far is 1:00.711, but most are still 1:01.something.
Rode along with John and basically it's typical with the fast guys...they push the car harder and CONTROL IT which I can't do nearly as well.
ps. Sorry about the bitch session earlier

Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
I've always been in the 18/19 psi range. I really don't tune my cars too often, mostly because I'd rather focus on the nature of the cars handling and adapt to it's characteristics than spend the time to tune the car to my liking. Maybe it's just laziness.
That's what's nice about the Skip. There isn't a lot to mess with if you do want to play with the tuning.

That Mustang/Interlagos pairing is just amazing. Really good time there. Another good race and a 3rd place finish in a field of 16.

Time seems to have gotten the better of me this week and I haven't got round to running the Skip or the Mustang as I planned .
I should be able to get some races in the Skip tomorrow so we'll see how that goes. I'll be sticking with tyres at the 18/19PSI range too.
Maybe I'll see you guys on track.

18 PSI, 8 ARB, 55% Brake Balance and +1 Spring Perch and she drives nice and sweet. If you're a better man than I am, +2 Spring Perch will get you a lot more grip on the front end but the rear becomes very lively.
Just took 2nd in my race tonight, 1 Incident, +0.66 SR, back well above 2.0 again, 2.6, aiming for C License as soon as possible. More safe races to come.

Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
Just ran the Solstice at Charlotte with Andy and Tom. Three different DSO liveries!
I got lucky at the start and avoided the same driver that wiped me out a few races back. Tom was not so lucky as she turned down on to him the exact same way she did to me. Andy got slowed up by this and I was off to a 9 second lead. There was a lot of lapped traffic and the gap was down to 6 seconds when I was passed by 2 of the 4 Jettas that didn't qualify One of them proceeded to shit the bed and run off course in front of me several times and by the time I got passed him again Tom was less than 2 seconds behind me. Unfortunately for Tom my Jetta friend decided to go off in front of Tom, causing him to spin, so I got away with an easy win. Sometimes you have no luck, until you have all of it.

Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
^^ Couldn't have described that race any better. I think the Rainman was driving that yellow Jetta at the end; worst Jetta I think I've seen. I still don't get how I was even able to finish that race after all the contact. The Mazda slammed me in T1 L1; I figure OK, i'm bent , race over. I keep going and somehow the wheel is still straight, so I pick my pace back up to normal and a couple laps later I'm trying to pass a slower Mazda. As we approach the S/F line he drives all the way up from the bottom lane until he is blocking my path on the high side, and he is on the brakes waaay early. I get sandwiched between he and the wall, and somehow my car is still seemingly undamaged. Then somehow I end up right on Stephen's back bumper with 2 to go, and the yellow Jetta interfere's with our race for no apparent reason; he had nothing to gain by being there , and nothing to lose by just getting outta the way. I watched the replay, and my car appears to not have a mark on it, I don't see how.

Looking good out there guys!
I managed to get some quick practice, a quali' run, then 2 races in the Skippy today securing a solid 134 points for a close fought 3rd position.
Now looking forward to a new track for me, Zolder in the SRF and a different version of Mid-Ohio in the Skippy.

Just drove Katz's carbon fiber SRF scheme to a strong 2nd place at Oky Short, 0 incidents, only 3.4 seconds off the win. Thanks again guys for designing/sharing the DSO paint schemes, just adds to the fun.

I'm telling you, carbon fiber makes you go faster. Carbon fiber + stripes? There's no stopping you.

Anyone going to be online practicing tonight? Was thinking of putting in an hour or 2 in the Skippy at Mid-Ohio when I get home, around 6:00pm Pacific. Maybe a bit earlier. Would love to give chase/share tips.
Also, clacksman, where yo internets?

I can't disprove that theory so far William !HWKII wrote:Rooster722 wrote:Just drove Katz's carbon fiber SRF scheme to a strong 2nd place at Oky Short, 0 incidents, only 3.4 seconds off the win. Thanks again guys for designing/sharing the DSO paint schemes, just adds to the fun.

Thanks Nigel ! Oky short and I never really hit it off too well, so the carbon fiber scheme must have been a factor.
