Brake hard initially, then partially lift just before they squeal loudly.

Get fancy pedals that vibrate when you get to 7/8th brake pressure
I didn't do any ABS braking until after I got my clubsports, but clacksman nailed it. Brake hard then ease out, and if you don't have confidence in being able to brake hard or with stability, then don't use much more than 1/2 to 2/3 brake. You'd be surprised how much deceleration that will give you. As the car slows it has less momentum and thus requires less braking force to maintain its deceleration rate. As you come off the brakes you can then start spending the recouped grip budget on turning in. Releasing the brakes completely and reaching the desire turn-in arc should ideally happen simultaneously in most corners.
If you do get in late remember not to hold the brakes. Pumping or modulating the pressure will get you out of brake lock. As that happens you'll brake better and get some turning grip.
Late braking with no ABS is often a gamble. It's just not worth locking up. Brake early, gain confidence, then probe the limits.

wow, this is difficult
after one hour I managed one 1'39.9; but most of the time I'm many seconds slower. I rarely get a lap together w/o a bigger mistake.
Tonight will be all about concentrating and not pushing too hard.
I hope I get some more practice time a bit later.

i wanted to practice more last night but got wrapped up in hockey. hopefully i'll get on early tonight for a few dozen laps. this isnt a car one can just jump in at 9:15 and expect it to come together. the track also has several places it will hurt you bad.

Tried runnin heavier brakes (5-3...4-2) and while the stopping was better, the brakes are way too touchy and too easy to over do. I know myself well enough that in a practice room where all I'm thinkin about is feathering the brakes is not gonna fly in a race when it needs to be something I don't have to think about, just do. Prolly with a LOT more practice I would be comfortable enouth to try and run a race. I use the 27 wheel and pedals and don't know how they stack up to the Forget was talkin about.

Dang, no abs is no joke. That was a huge fun though. I can't remember that last time my feet and hands moved that fast playing GT5. And why did you have to go into full on beast mode for this one Rack? Seriously that was an awesome display dude. I couldn't do anything to catch up.
And who took out the distance markers going into the last turn? It added some spice to the race but guessing on the braking point was kinda scary. The first time I came to that turn after the markers were gone the only though running through my head was "Uuuuuuuhhhhhh?"

That was inadvertently me, I had been spinning for 5 or 6 seconds. Just didn't have it tonight.

Re: Lotus Esprit Trophy | Friday April 13 | Laguna Seca
I really like the car choice for this series. It's well balanced and not too hard to control when it slides.
I didn't qualify real well, and only had the eighth best lap time in the race, but slow and steady earned me a podium finish.
Had a close battle with VK for the first half. I was feeling the pressure and made a few mistakes. When the #3 brake marker for the last turn disappeared, he ended up in the sand and gave me some breathing room.
There was a big lag spike later in the race, but I didn't notice it until I watched the replay. VK's car really takes flight through the corkscrew on lap 20.

Re: Lotus Esprit Trophy | Friday April 13 | Laguna Seca
well, that was an interesting race for me. I knew I didn't have the speed to go with the big boys but somehow I was able to hang on to robiker. He guided me nicely through the corners and I could avoid sliding almost entirely. Unscheduled pit stops even brought us up to 3rd and 4th. So far so good.
But then the playroom's door opened and I got a co-pilot. Believe me, a 7 year old chatty girl is not the right co-pilot for a race Within a few laps I lost robiker and got passed by Agent, group and rooster. But she's my little princess after all and can take a ride with me any time.

The joys of not living alone. Granted, my roommate is not my princess, but boy does he love chatting to me during races...
