I bet you're a good 2 seconds a lap faster than me, I run 1'00s dead. I am betting you're in the 0'57-0'58 range.

Last season I snuck a q lap into the 57's and averaged low 58's during the races. I hope to be a little faster this time. Many of the mutant aliens lap in the 57's and I have no idea how they do that without lots of death. I have a goal.

I am pretty sure I can get in to the 59s with a bit more risk of death, but 1'00s seems like it's a pretty reasonable pace. I saw guys last night in my split who were running 1'05s - 1'11s... waat?

iRacing thinks I am way, way worse at this game than I really am. Embarassed Laughing

Anyone for joining me in some racing action at 'The Rock'? I got some practice in with Nigel last night and we were cutting some fast laps, although not to consistently. I hope to squeak a high :57 for qualifying tonight and will be happy lapping in the low 58's in race pace. That should be a safe enough pace not to die every other lap.

This track seems more prone to immediate death if you start pushing just a bit more than you should. Careful times at the Rock tonight.

Hope to run into some of you later.

Hope to be on around 8 or so. Ran the 8:15 last night. Started 6th and finished 5th. Woulda been incident free except for the start of course, when everyone loses the f'n minds. Guy spun in front of me and I was on the brakes and came to a stop a few feet way and then a love tap from behind got me front and rear damage. Came up from 11th slowly but surely passing the guys I should have been in front of anyway. I DID try and have success with braking and same time throttle which worked really well in the left hander Cool.

Not sure if I'll run any races at the Rock this week as I have a real problem with 'holding back' and I'm pretty sure balls out driving aint gonna cut it! lol Stringing more than 5 laps together has proven pretty tough for me, but we'll see. If I run any races in the Skip, it will probably be at the weekend. Don't have too much time this week, so will probably try to get some decent points in the SRF at Interlagos and see if I have time to risk the Skip.

So I contact RackAttack about taking his T500RS off of him. He calculated the shipping to be $70 from California to BC. I thought that was a lot but it is a heavy wheel and pedals. With that shipping price it doesn't really make sense for either of us. I thought that maybe I'd go for a Fanatec CSR wheel instead and save a few bucks. I visit the fanatec site put the csr in the shopping cart and calculate shipping. Turns out they want $70 for shipping. I paid $28 for my CSPs not long ago. For fun, I checked shipping on the CSL cockpit/wheel combo. The combo costs $399 and they want $252 shipping. Unbelievable. Are we going through an oil crisis that I don't know about?

All things considered, $70 to travel 1254mi, 62.7mpg is what you'd to average to drive it. If the CSL cockpit/wheel combo was also coming from S Cal, and your car gets better than 17.4mpg, you would actually be better off driving. Laughing

I was just tryin out the Skippy for the 2nd time this evening, super fun car ! I'd run 5 laps or so, then read the tire temps, trying to figure out what the car likes. Ended up leaving the baseline chassis alone except adjusting the sway bar to 2. Tire pressure is huge on this car; seems to me to be the most TP sensitive car out of the ones I've messed with. I noticed it's really easy to drive at Lime Rock with the base 24 air pressure in the rear and the fronts pumped up in the low 30's; goes through T2 (1st left hander, if I'm counting my turns correctly) waaay better. The tire temps after a handful of laps were 143 front/139 rear, which was the most heat that I'd seen in the fronts up to this point. I don't have enough 'sperience in this ride yet to race her tonight, but just thought I'd relay wat I found.

Front runners ran 59s all race, midfield ran 1'00-1'01, worked my way from 11th to 5th but then spun off in to a barrier in Turn 1 after locking up on lap 19, finished the race in 7th with a very small SR and IR bump. Not too bad, but the error was totally my fault and unprovoked.

Yeah, Limerock is still awesome. What a Face

Buutttt, when you spin out on the last lap, you know you're going to remember the position you could have had when you spun (4th) before you realize how far you moved up. I think I lost 2-3 spots on the first lap just because I refuse to get in to it during that melee.

I'll have to try out those pressures Roo. Been runnin much lower with pretty good results, but open to trying something different. Those temps seem a little cool to me, but consistant front to back looks good.

I had a crap race at 8. Got wrecked out first turn lap 1. I came really close to snappin and goin off on some peeps Mad. Was like a rookie race in the MX5. Was not happy to say the least. Maybe tonight will be better.

There's a Skippy/Limerock vid on the forums that brought up a Youtube assortment showing a Skippy race from a Red car POV. It was with a little different chicane and track looks freshly paved but I don't know when it happened. Anyway, the first lap is amazing. Super tight traffic and would ya believe it...no incidents lol. I know it's not apples to apples seeing as we don't have the range of vision, but it made me wish just once a race there would go that way. Check it out Smile

This is that vid I mentioned. This dude can drive lol. Check out turn 1. Maybe could drive like that with the 3 screens, but not with one imo. I guess it was 2011. Maybe it just looks fresh paved. Doesn't look like the chicane we use though.

Couple things I notice here are:
  • Freshly paved, not the tarmac/concrete/moonrock mixture that we race on.
  • Pretty sure those are Skip Barber National cars, running on slicks as opposed to the Regional cars that we have which run on road tires. Moar grip.
  • More peripheral vision is a good thing. I am really looking forward to having my 3 monitors setup with TrackIR so not only do I get the broader perspective but also the ability to look left and right to adjust my view even more naturally.
  • They made it through the first lap without half of them being dead in a tree.
  • The RL Skippy has more throttle oversteer and less lift off oversteer it looks like than ours. We get a lot of throttle understeer and lift off oversteer enough to hurl a small moon in to orbit. Possibly how the rear shocks are set, we can't adjust ours in sim. Sadface.
  • Markedly similar lap times, accounting for the chicane (Have not driven that layout in iRacing if it's there...) and faster tires.


Additional thought: How much do you think the students fight over who gets the red one? Red makes it faster. It is known. What a Face

Lime Rock has gone through a major overhaul since it was scanned years ago. I've been wondering when they will update it. Hell, it's not far from their headquarters. I think Lime Rock was one of their original scans, no?

The tires have a groove in them but we don't see them at a stop. The chicane is in the sim. I ran it in the SRF. It's different though. I noticed lap times too...and sector speeds too ie: the left hander and downhill. Top speed looks about right too. The school is just over the hill to the left of the straight/uphill section fyi, and if I ever do any classes, I WILL have a RED one Razz

The chicane we have is old, they built a new one which really disrupts the flow and speed of the track, and the second chicane at West Bend is atrocious if you ask me. I hope if they do rescan and update the circuit that we still run the fast unsafe version. Very Happy

Also, I went to the FAQ on Lime Rock's website and looked for the question: "Why does Lime Rock want to kill me in iRacing?". I didn't find it. I guess it's not a common question.

Yea, the chicane track in the game sucks. I ran some practice and left lol. The one in the video looks much bettah. I don't recall seeing it when I was there, but I was trying not to die.

I don't hate the chicanes at Le Mans. I don't love them, they exist just to kill the speed on the Mulsanne straight, but at least they aren't full on awful bus stops or worse, Singapore GP track bad. The uphill right hander at Lime Rock is one of the best bits, entry for me is around 85-87mph and getting up to 92 if I'm doing well by the crest. Feeling the car unload through my G27 is one of my favorite things.

I do think that Lime Rock is a great little circuit though, a lot of fun. I'd kill for a runabout in a Skippy in real life. Hell, I'd drive one to work every day! What a Face

Much better tonight. Started 7th finished 2nd even after goin off to avoid a couple guys after the uphill.
Those tire pressures made a big difference. I ran 23R - 29F and bumped the suspension to 4. It really helped the stability. Dropped the pressure by one pound each after initial setup trying to get the temps even side to side. Got close.
