To make up for the lost gauges I'm using Shiftone. It's sweet. That has taken away my habit of staring at the needle when I get near the shift point, especially in cars like the SRF and Mustang where you don't go near the redline. That means I'm distracted less.
Gonna look in to this tonight, I suffer badly from needle watching.
Dammit, now he's just going to be faster and more consistent...
My 46in TV being about 40in from my face, it drops the FOV to 40. Will give it a shot with ShiftTone and adjust the rear view mirror accordinly to try and get back from Perifpheral vision. Some people in the FOV posts have said that using the calculator (which is really more designed with 3 screens in mind than 1) and doubling that result gives you a more natural FOV while retaining your peripherals. I have be running at 80 degrees.
I was going to use the 3 screens on my desktop but can't really get a good driving position right now so improved vision is losing out to comfort. Will rearrange eventually.

Is there a way to set it up so that it never adds fuel/tires when you pit? I come in for repairs or to serve a black flag and I waste 20-40 seconds for tires/fuel. Yes I know I can do it through some crazy combination of F keys and mouse clicks, but that's not practical as I don't have a keyboard close by.

I mapped those buttons to my wheel. Don't know how many handy dandy buttons you have on yours though.

uncheck those onthe grid, I do it every race. Buttons on the wheel to navigate the black boxes

Squeeeeeeeeee -
2nd place in a Skip Race, fastest lap was a 51.9, but game seems to have thrown that out because ... NETCODE lol
Also, in case anyone is wondering, with 2.1 gallons of fuel, you will run out of gas between La Source and Eau Rouge on the 9th lap. So... Fun fact, if you flip the car in to Neutral once you're on the downhill between Rivage and Les Combes, you can coast all the way through Paul Frierre.
Felt good to get a +.20 SR bump. Last race, 6th place hit me in the rear quarter coming back on to the track after cutting Eau Rouge. This after fighting through the field from a Lap 1 pitstop. High participation races kill me, guys doing '56s on pole braking for Eau Rouge... Guess I should Q.

Spa is a wonderful and historic venue. It is also quite an awful track to try and share with amateur sim racers. SRF race I defended in to the second part Blanchimont and the prick just turned down on to me. Skippy race, rather than go two wide through Eau-Rouge I back off, only to get run over by a following car who was going flat out through there no matter what, and in just this last Mustang race, after spending two laps looking for a clean pass on a car that couldn't keep his rear end in check, I finally get a run in to T9 (left hander between Rivage and Pouhon) and sure enough, he apexes like a hot lap, slaps me across the nose and spins us both. I've fallen to a 2.xx sr from this place.

Yes. Too many accidents in the Skippy races here this week for me to hit my goal of 3.0 SR for tomorrow sadly. There's a massive, dangerous, accordion going through La Source and Eau Rouge. I watched 3 wide go through Eau Rouge yesterday wipe out 8 out of 11 racers. Racing along side you in the SRF yesterday was so nice. Clean, firm defending, and situational awareness are not things I expect from people in public rooms.
Time to start up the official DSO series.
Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
Well, this season was fun while it lasted... I'm out of commission due to Yet Another Fanatec Shifter Paddle Failure (YAFSPF for short). Two out of two Fanatec wheels I've owned have had their shifter paddle fail. Damn Germans and their amazing hardware with shit for reliability. You'd think if you spend $750 on a wheel, the thing would last longer than ~4 months of use before breaking.
And on top of that, it failed 4 minutes before the GTC race I had been preparing for for 2 hours. Thankfully I was able to withdraw before incurring a penalty, but man am I pissed.
/rant
Edit: Oh, and I've already sold my g25 and (fixed) Fanatec GT3RS, and I don't really want to unbox the Thrustmaster I won that I have yet to sell.

Have a friend with a CSW, gonna try and borrow his BMW wheel rim for the week. Fanatec already has the replacement parts on their way to me, hopefully they'll ship from LA and I'll get them in a few days.
I'm pretty committed to Fanatec at this point, and I want to keep the Thrustmaster sealed so I can sell it as "New In Box".

If you can give me a price that I can convince my wife is a great deal, I might be able to take that Thrustmaster off of you. I've been wanting to replace my old G25. They appear to go on sale relatively frequently down there but up here you're lucky to get $20 off.

Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
So. Much. Hate.
Started 4th, running 5th by Turn 1 because I am not interested in contending that nonsense. Take the position back, running 4th for a few laps about 3 seconds behind 3rd. 3rd gets greedy for 2nd going in to Turn 1 on lap 7, takes them both out. Walk down 1st place by lap 8 after he bobbles going uphill and pass him. Last place, backmarker, already 2L down, comes up next, 8sec gap between me and 2nd place and I am churning out 1'00.3 or less every lap. Watch this guy nearly buy it in the uphill, back off, back off him again in the right hander at the top of the hill. He starts to go wide in the final turn, I turn in and try and make the pass on the inside.
WHAM, he corrects back to the inside (I am talking, my right wheels are on yellow paint) using gas/brake simultaneously which magically corrects all spinning, and I end up driving right up his rear bumper, flip him over the top of me and crash in to the tire barriers at the pit entrance.
Guy who wrecks me puts in chat, "I f***ing hate this track LEARN TO DRIVE!" and quits ...
Fall back to 6th.
Finish 7th after red-misting it in to the wall at the exit of the esses.
Guy who wins, John Perry, thanks me over voice chat at the end of the race, tells me he had nothing for me and should have won. Was nice of him.

I thought I was coming to grips with the Solstice, then Lime Rock. It's giving me the yips.

Don't worry Ben, Lime Rock does that to me too.....pretty much with every car i drive there. It's something about that place. It looks so small and easy, but it's a huge pain in the .
I almost dread dusting off my precious Skip and driving it there tonight. I'm sure I'll have fun though.

I ran it last night. Hate it. Pretty consistently in the mid 58s after about 2 hours of practice, but still hate it.
I also had to switch to auto-blip because the downshifts under braking/turning into T1 and T3 were upsetting car too much without a blip (I'm not heal-toeing).
Edit: Unfortunately I don't think I can join you guys there tonight, other plans.

Re: 2013 Season 1 - Starts Jan 28 2013
I like the track, I think. It's the only one I'd already driven in more than 1 car before. It's narrow and undulating and bumpy, and thought the transition from Summit to it would be pretty seamless actually. Something about the suspension compression in this car and where the bumps are. That and I find this car prone to unexpected tantrums that it won't recover from until it throws itself into the grass and slams its tires into the ground.
Toddler car, and this track is its brussel sprouts.

I bet you're a good 2 seconds a lap faster than me, I run 1'00s dead. I am betting you're in the 0'57-0'58 range.

Last season I snuck a q lap into the 57's and averaged low 58's during the races. I hope to be a little faster this time. Many of the mutant aliens lap in the 57's and I have no idea how they do that without lots of death. I have a goal.
