DriverSports Progression Club | Mon 23 | Stealth Mod | Silvia S15 '02 | RC-I
Welcome to the DriverSorts.org Progression Club, an introduction to the methods of car building and event restrictions at the disposal of the DriverSports event staff. Beginning with a stock car in week 1, we will progress to a lightly tuned street car the 2nd week, a mild Race Modifed version in week 3 and a potent race car in the final event. Tires will advance accordingly as well.
This month's subject is the premium Nissan Silvia Spec-R Aero (S15) '02. This lightweight RWD is a favourite of drifters and is often overlooked in the world of competitive racing. Thanks to PD's Race Modified version it's a great platform for this series, starting off as a mild RWD street car and ending up a serious track car. It is our intention to promote a better understanding of how and why we allow certain parts and disallow others.
Week 1 will run with Tuning Prohibited to experience the stock car on the Sports Hard rubber it was born with. Week 2 will see the tuning restriction lifted and the 'Stealth Modifications' and Sports Medium tires allowed. Week 3 will bring the Racing Modification in to the mix (please note that after race modifying a car it needs to be broken in again). The stealth mods will stay, but an increase in power and speed will come with the Racing Modification and jump to Sports Soft tires. The final week will be run with all of the engine upgrades allowed, except for the turbos, what we call 'Max RPM', while also advancing to Racing Hard tires. All four events will have TCS disabled and ABS allowed.

car is broken in and ready, not so much the driver though.
Will have to do practice and qualifying tomorrow during lunch or any other break. Nevertheless I'm already looking forward to tomorrow night.

that's when kids are back from school and my more important (but unpaid) job requires my full attention.
I have basically no chance to get on my PS3 between lunch and race time.

Took a blast earlier today and it would appear any times in the high 39's will do nicely.

That's what I thought but that's what it says in the room settings. Thought I'd better check. About to run Q with tune.

Indeed.
Going in I had to manage tire wear and see how it looked about halfway. Race wear is usually better than practice wear for me, if it wasn't I was going to need to pit. Rooster broke out to an early lead, followed by me and tt. tim started fourth and wandered forward to second in a few laps. Then tim spun out leaving the last turn. I checked up to avoid, tt got by, tim resumed well back. About L10 I knew I wasn't pitting, and noone else up front did either. I finally ran Rooster down with a handful to go and took the lead and held on for the win. Without tim spinning that would have been more difficult.
Good times.

I think that was my fault, was my pass clean? Should have cooled my jets and stayed with you, we were still tight with the pack at lap 2. Great to run with a true sportsman.

Good race last night. Without the spin it would have been very interesting with clacksman. The spin cost me about 6 seconds, and clacksman won by 3. Clacksman maintained more tires, as usual, though, so if I had got within 2 sec, he probably would have been able to push a little more and stretch the gap back out.
I had a look at the replay, and looked at my and clacksman's lap times throughout. the difference between the first 12 and second 12 laps was 20 seconds (even taking into account that the first lap is slow, because of the start). Pit stop delta is about 36 seconds, so for us, pitting wouldn't help. Those in the next pack had dropped more lap time though, so they might have benefited from a stop. It's hard to make that call when you're in a good fight though.

I would have liked to see how the different pit strategies work out between robiker and myself. He was a few seconds ahead of me when he pitted and I was planning to go w/o stopping. But then I damaged my car and had to pit anyway.
Good times nontheless.

yeah, I had to pit with maybe 5 laps to go. At that point I knew it would get close between us but now we will never find out how close

Depended on tire wear.
Clacks and Group had about half tires left at the end, while TT and Rooster were almost on rims.
I didn't want to risk it.

while I had clacksman's tune I highly doubt I had his tire wear. But I was kind of confident I can make it to the finish line.
