new week, same series, same car

Just finished my first laps at Summit Point Raceway after watching a 1'24 lap in replay. So far I have a best lap of 1'25.2 and an optimal lap of 1'24.9.

Not sure what it is worth but it is (barely) in the top 100 based on the world records. I guess I'll find out over the next 7 days.

iRNC Solstice at Summit, just ran the Mustang there this week, so I'm prepped and ready to go there.

GT Cup Solstice on the Glen, boot course

Mustang Cup on Oulton Park Int w/ no chicanes. Tested the 79 there, so I have an idea of where I'm going.

The scene: Summit Point Raceway. 10 Pontiacs and just two MX-5s, a strange sight in a class usually dominated by the Mazda. I start 3rd, one spot behind VK. The leader jumps the start and pits at the end of lap 1 to take the penalty leaving the two DS drivers to duke it out. A few laps in VK is slow on to the main straight, so I pass him clean in to T1. I try to open a gap but we fight between .5 and 1 second for most of the race. Lap 13 (of 14) I'm the one slow on to the straight and VK assumes the lead. I pressure him hard on lap 13 and most of 14. Coming through turn 9 VK checks up a bit and I get beside him...

We're drag racing under the bridge for the final corner. I have the inside. I brake after I hear VK let off. I turn but not enough, just as VK turns too much. Contact once. We both correct. Contact a second time. We're both spinning off.

I gather it up in the grass and I see VK slide deeper and hit the wall hard. I get pointed straight head for the finish to limp across for 1st in class, 2nd overall. VK wasn't so lucky as the pack of remainin Solsti got by him before he could limp to the end.

All in all it was a thrilling race that ended in a spectacular, albeit a bit disappoint, finish that I think both VK and I are chalking up as a racing incident. I couldn't ask to wreck with a better guy.

indeed a great race; close from turn 1 in lap 1 to the last turn of the last lap. Okay; that one was too close.
I watched the lead car entering the pit and missed my breaking point allowing you to pass me already at the end of the first lap After that I was waiting for you to make a mistake; but when ever you had a minor mishap I could not take advantage because I screwed up too. When I almost settled for 2nd you finally gave me the opportunity to pass and I took thankfully the lead At that point my pulse was up and adrenalin was running through my body...

Well, the rest is history. I agree, it was a racing incident and we can share the blame evenly

On the positive side I want to mention the MX-5 who caught up to us with maybe 4 or 5 laps to go. He was clearly faster than we; but stayed about 1s behind so that we could battle it out.

And then I want to thank all the Solstices who show up, but don't even turn one lap and just leave their iRating points for others to share.

Wall, I saw your message. The GT Cup doesn't run consistently like the rookie series', but when you bring up the series in your race tab it shows the start times for the next two races... which are tomorrow (or today when you read this). There's no indication there of what day those races are. An annoyance that caught me out too.

Not every series runs every day of the week. The official line on the GT Cup is races every 2 hours at 15 past Tue, Thur, Sat, Sun. Of course all times are GMT, so Tuesday is really late Monday through to mid day Tuesday. Make sure you use the calendar on the Race Planner tab, on the dashboard to look over the schedule offset to your time zone. I don't use the race planner itself, I just look through the series' I'm running to know when they're on.

What happened was a bit wierd. The last race that showed was for 6:15 and then nothing. Then at 8:20, a race showed at 8:15 which was already past. I understand what yer sayin about the GMT, but shouldn't it have gone till later Tuesday? The other thing that happened was when I was messaging you, everything I typed doubled with you're name repeating what I typed. Not sure there lol.

I know it's still early but I plan to move to the Grand Touring Cup MC next week since it will be on a track I own. I'll go shopping when I know what I need for Season 4.

My question is whether I should stay in the Solstice or shift to the MX-5. It looks like the MX-5 has bigger fields but the Solstice has a higher SOF. Any thoughts or advice?

VK, the higher SOF is due to a smaller field. Think of it like this, if you've got a guy with a super high iRating and only 2 other participants the SOF will average out to the higher number. It's just an average of who enters the race and what their iRatings are.

There is nothing worse than watching participation climb when entering a race and you think it's going to split, then you are 1 entrant shy and the huge field pulls the SOF down, rather than a split with a high SOF group. It's all luck as to who enters when you enter.

My good friend Derrick had a 3DO, a laserdisk player and a 50in projection TV... Height of vaguely 90s technology! To afford these things, all his Dad had done was pretty much invent the 3D graphics accelerator and then sell it.

Road Rash was one of our favorites, not just for hilarious motorcycle gangs but for the copious amounts of T&A on display in what I am sure was horrific looking full motion video.

I'm incident free for the last 4 races and I have to admit I'm a bit nervous about my next race.

Getting that Save Driver Level 2 award would sure be nice.

I've had 2 in a row a couple times. The stress of continuing it makes me screw up for no other reason.

So last night I entered the 5th race and was quite nervous.

It showed 20 drivers with the countdown at about 1 minute and I was hoping for one more to get a smaller field. But it didn't happen and when I finally was in the event I saw a grid of 6 Solstices and 13 MX-5s.

To my surprise I was overall pole and my q-time was 0.5s faster than the 2nd. Best of all was that all the other Solstices were at the very end. It was an easy call that the best strategy was to grid and out-accelerate the MX-5s to the first corner.

The plan worked and I got through the first corner unharmed. Although I almost ruined it myself by turning in too early.

From there I tried to find the balance between keeping it safe and keeping the cars behind me at a safe distance. No aliens were on the grid so that worked out too. I got into some traffic with lapped cars but always one at a time. The last 2 or 3 laps I just followed one of those lapped cars as the MX-5 behind me had obviously also no interest in racing and cruised to his win too.

So to make a long story short. I got my 5th incident free race with a start - finish win.

I'm glad it's over and I can enjoy my races again ... Although there is that level 3 award ... Noooo, lets not even think about that

After I did my 2 clean races in a row I ended the safety streak on the first lap of the third race.

Anyone gonna run the 8:15 at the Glen? Ran 6:15 yesterday in the MX5 with poor results. Holds the track better than the Solstice (in most places) but the lap times are very close. Some Solstice guys hittin 2:15's consistantly. Tried both, just not sure which car to stick with.

Assuming the race doesn't disappear just prior to grid time like it did last night, I should be there with the Solstice. Haven't tried the MX5 at the Glen, so I"m of no use on that one.
