DriverSports G Production Pre-Season | Sunday June 10 | SSR5
- DriverSports.org Rulebook:
Driversports.org is proud to announce its newest series, G Production. This class consists of a large portion of pre-1975 cars under 2 liters available in GT5. They have all been matched in performance to create a highly competitive field. We will be running a two week preseason to assess the how well the field is balanced in full race conditions before starting a six week series.
The regulations for G Production will have the race room set to 128hp and 850kg on Comfort Soft tires with all assists disabled. To achieve these specs, all entries will be allowed to have Stealth Modifications to the engine (Sports Intake Manifold, Racing Air Filter, and Sports Exhaust Manifold). There are a few cars that will also need additional Engine Stage Tuning, and some that will require the use of the Engine Limiter. Please note if your car is high mile, you may show different power/limiter figures than those provided in GTdata. You may not add additional tuning parts to make up for losses in power due to mileage. These extra parts will be readily visible upon tech inspection, and you will be disqualified from the race standings.
In addition to the engine limitations and room settings, GT Auto wings are also not allowed. You may use any combination of weight reduction, chassis stiffening, transmission, drivetrain and suspension parts. To meet the weight restrictions, ballasting (and ballast positioning) is allowed.
Car selection will remain open for the two preseason races. Once we begin the six week series drivers will have to commit to one car for the entire duration. Testing has shown this field to be very competitive and we look forward to seeing you all on track.

Re: DriverSports G Production Pre-Season | Sunday June 10 | SSR5
I've tested a bit here already.
1600GTA (winning car from last week) 1'48.5
110S 1'48.6
117 1'48.3
With someone using the 1600GTA, I'm definitely switching but I don't yet know to what, depends partially on what other people use/switch to.

sorry for taking your car
this is a lot of fun; so far my best is a 1'50.0. There is more for me to have, but I just can't pull a good lap together. I know I asked before, what's a cure for oversteering to make it less risky?

i wanted the spitfire to surprise me, but it didnt as of this morning. might get another second out of it with lots of work, but its way off a sub 1:50 pace. gotta play with the Cosmo and Bluebird as i'd like to find something thats competitive to the ringer everyone will figure out and use. lol!! just foolin' with ya 'all ... :-) gonna keep at the spitfire, but i dont wanna get lapped every race for 6 weeks.

Moving the ballast forward should help, by about 5 at a time. If it's only on exit (ie: just when you're applying power) that it oversteers try a little more + rear toe or + rear ride height.

yeah, it's mainly on exit. Thanks; I'll try those things next time I get on.
I love the car; keeps me busy but the speed is slow enough to let my brain process what my eyes see
1'49.4 so far, but I don't see a lot of room for improvement for me anymore. Consistency will be more important anyway.

I did speed tests with all the cars. The Triumph has the best top speed, at 147 mph, but is next to last in acceleration. The Cosmo is quickest, as well as second fastest at 144 mph. That 1 liter Wankel is pretty impressive, even if it sounds like a Hoover.

Cool. The wacky powerband on the Triumph makes it possibly the most gearing-sensitive of the cars.

Lap times? Testing? Waste of time! We're going to be in one big fat pack all night anyways

I believe that in the sense of not even trying out different cars. I totally trust who ever put together the list of cars.
However I don't trust so much at least one of the drivers (me). W/o practice I would spend a lot of time perfectionizing pit entry and exit on Sunday

finally got to spend a few hours with some cars. the cosmo tuned up nicely with a best of 1:48.848, while the spitfire needs more work with a best of 1:49.769 (most hi 1:50's)

Sure, now they know who to blame Really wanted to use something you didn't see every day. Got lucky to find a such a large field of great cars to drive. Also, a special thanks to clacksman, Rooster722 and Forgetful for all their help.

A down side of racing in my sunny living room is that I can't practice night tracks during the day
I'll be wrestling the Triumph, come hell or high water.

49.2 in the Triumph testing last night. Setup changes will only get me tenths here or there, or more likely, no tenths, but better consistency.
So, that's how that thing shakes down. Now I'll see how it works with other cars and drivers.

Live qualifying:
1 - clacksman - 117 Coupe - 1'48.386
2 - timneyb - Spitfire - 1'48.777
3 - Rooster722 - GTO MR - 1'48.795
4 - AgentWD40_FL - Cosmo - 1'48.946
5 - vkaifh - 1600GTA - 1'49.824
6 - robiker - 117 Coupe - 1'50.393
7 - Forgetful - Bellett - 1'50.461
8 - group44 - Spider - 1'50.715
9 - Juan-de-Juarez DNS
Race finish:
1 - clacksman - 117 Coupe - 40'03.565
2 - robiker - 117 Coupe - +12.076
3 - Forgetful - Bellett - +14.313
4 - Rooster722 - GTO MR - +15.221
5 - AgentWD40_FL - Cosmo - +15.472
6 - timneyb - Spitfire - +26.665
7 - vkaifh - 1600GTA - +1'31.884
8 - group44 - Spider - 2'48.565
I got a good start and left the race for not-first to themselves. Damn hot here, likely would have crashed out of the pack at some point. Almost crashed while unbothered anyway. Put my 117 tune in GTData, seems good, but 90 mins-2 hours work will do that.
