Laughing

Watching a double header of Talladega Nights and Days of Thunder. I need a banjo and a fifth of whiskey, stat.

One day I am sure that this thread will have an interesting conversation about Rush, but I'm wondering if there are any racing/car movies I should keep an eye out for?

Currently have Le Mans and Grand Prix as regulars in my rotation of things lay about watching. And never forget the brilliance than is the 2001 Sylvester Stallone film, Driven; a movie with no bad guy and some of the best names in cinema history. Beau Brandenberg. Jimmy Bly. Memo Moreno. Originally supposed to be a Senna biopic, it turned out to be soooooo much more better. Twisted Evil

Two-Lane Blacktop is good. At least I think so.

I own Gran Prix on DVD (ya disc change at intermission). Le Mans is also great. Don't own it but have seen it a couple of times.

Isn't that really all there is? DLing TLBT at clacksman's recommendation.

All I have to say about 'Driven' is that when the Opponauts at Opposite Lock started discussing Rush, one recommendation was to watch 'Driven' so that you know where the floor is for racing movies. I've not watched it start to finish, but I have seen the infamous 'quarters' scene. I lol'd then stopped watching.

I recently watched a quintology of street racing movies in which everyone is speedy and enraged. They are terrible. I feel like the first movie had a good script, it was just poorly cast and even more poorly directed. The next 4 are just feeding the beast, the monster of their own creation. This is what happens when there's a dearth of quality driving/racing movies.

Rush should be great. I already want sequels and prequels.

Just about, until you expand 'racing movies' to watching 'movies with cars going fast' which includes another handful of good/watchable movies and a bunch of utter sh-

Never mind, I see you've already made this leap.

One and a half of the various older 'Cannonball Run's is good. I don't remember which one or which half. One of 'Speed Zone' and 'Redline 7000' is watchable for lolz, the other is just wat.

The one that's in the Grand Prix/Le Mans tier for quality is On Any Sunday.

Ah, the Quintology of Quick and Angry Gentlemen, I know them well. Laughing

I don't know if it's fair to say that Driven is the floor for racing movies. If you haven't already seen it, watch 200mph (tag line: "Some limits should never be crossed"). Allow me to share some of the glory of this film from IMDB:

Throughout the green car is referred to as a mx5. It is clearly an rx7.

Throughout the film, Rick is building a Mazda RX7 FC. During his "test drive" scenes, he drifts into a corner in the RX7, but exits driving a Nissan Silvia S14. This may be due to the fact that the "hero" car was stolen during production.

So... to be clear here: The makers of this car racing movie: Don't know the difference between an RX-7 and an MX-5, and when their RX-7 was stolen, they couldn't even be bothered to go out and get another one, so they replaced it with a Silvia and hoped no one would notice.

Driven > This movie.

Ok, now I'm going looking for bad car movies.

I have seen, and enjoyed, the original Gone in 60 seconds. Can't seem to find Deadline Auto Theft and Gi60S:2. There's a copy on Amazon, but 55$ is a bit much.

Watched Two Lane Blacktop the other night. Women, amirite?

1: I watched this movie many times.
2: My friend's father, a Chrysler mechanic at the time, liked it a lot.
3: I had forgotten Carlos Estevez was in it.
4: I don't remember anything about the plot (if there was/is one).
