Whereas they were quite insistent about that exact same point when it came to the tech tracks...

Re: iRacing General Discussion
Is the Lotus glorious or what? I did the updates tonight, but have to hit the hay so I won't be able to try it for a few days.
2 Questions:
1. Is it like the Skippy on crack?
2. Was it worth the wait?

It's so much more thank the skippy on crack. It's pretty hard to drive, but it is very rewarding when it starts to come together.

Re: iRacing General Discussion
Drove Lotus 49 after a couple of shots of Crown Royal. Fell in love.
Dangerous car to drive fast, nervous as near the limit but I found it had predictable qualities that didn't make it terrifying. Nothing like the Skippy at all, your feet do totally different things to correct in the Lotus 49 than they do in the Skip. The Lotus feels very lively. A boot of power makes it oversteer but not necessarily spin. Speed makes it understeer, as does too little throttle (shifting weight rearwards = bad in the corners).
It reminds me a lot of driving the Brabham in rFactor2 actually. Less forgiving when on the throttle but the same nervousness when you hit the top of the torque band pretty much all the gears.
I am by no means suggesting I will have pace in it, but it's driveable, and if people focus on that, then the field is going to be quite far apart by the end of the race, but I feel like most 'weekend warriors' should be able to finish a race in it. Unless they think they're Mario Andretti. in which case, more power to 'em and we'll see them quickly back in the D License...
Oh, and dat braking distance... Guaran-damn-teed, that's where the time will come. The braking distances are enormous, great passing chances for guys who know how their left foot works. Hilarious accidents will abound for those who don't.

Re: iRacing General Discussion
It's sensitive to setups from what I'm reading and experiencing. I'm almost to the point where I think I can try to race against other people with it.
I also tried the skippy, the only other car on the V5 of the tire model. It feels pretty good all around. A lot less finicky on the limit.

Cool!! You guys have me all pumped up. I've got the DFGT on the rig now since I wanted to cut a few laps with GT Academy (then I quickly became bored), so I need to find the time to convert the rig back over to the T500RS and it's back to iRacing. I'm looking forward to racing with you dudes again!

Re: iRacing General Discussion
this weeks Skippy thread on iRacing got sidetracked into a FOV discussion so I decided to bring up the topic here too.
2013 S3 - Week 7 - Laguna Seca
Until now I had my FOV set to 90 but the discussion made me lowering to 70. I can't do the correct FOV of 50 (yet), because it made me a bit dizzy right away. But I plan to lower it even further. The more detail with lower FOV might indeed give me another tenth here or there.
On another note I really enjoy the Skippy at Laguna even though I have mixed results. Participation is high and the hourly schedule makes it easy to get into a race. Obviously I will never keep up with the aliens but I find enough racers with my pace for really exciting and close races. The close races earned me more incidents than I would like but the fun that comes with it makes more than up for it.
Looking forward I plan to give the Star Mazda a shot next season. Anybody interested to join?

Re: iRacing General Discussion
I think I'll give the Skip a real go next season as I've dabbled with it before, but it's always been my 2nd or 3rd focus. I did a couple of races at Villeneuve with it last week and had a blast as well as picking up some good results as it seemed a bit more forgiving than I remembered. I'll see this season out with the Spec Racer for now though.
I did try the Star Mazda when I returned to track after a short absence, but found it quite difficult to get right up on the pace of where I'm at with other cars, plus, it's a bit boring to drive IMO. It seems to have too much grip for the power it's putting out, although obviously still requires some skill to go FAST! I just don't think it's as much fun as the Skippy.
Have fun out there and I'll hopefully catch you for a race or 2 soon.

Thanks vk, some pretty juicy lookin schedules coming our way. Very curious what Mount Panorama is like to thunder around. Bet the V8 Supercar gets record participant numbers this season

Drawing solely from Real Racing 3 on my iPhone, it's an amazingly fun track.group44 wrote:Thanks vk, some pretty juicy lookin schedules coming our way. Very curious what Mount Panorama is like to thunder around. Bet the V8 Supercar gets record participant numbers this season

Re: iRacing General Discussion
I already made my shopping list - the Star Mazda and 5 tracks. That'll give me the 20% discount and everything I need for the whole season in the Skippy and Mazda. Well, I won't have the Iowa Oval for the Mazda but I wouldn't do that week anyway.
Right now I'm hooked to the Skippy; fun car, big crowd, close and fair racing and races every hour. But the competition is tough, so many incredible fast drivers in split 1. I still haven't won one single race
The Mazda will be more an experiment and the path to the B license.

Lovin Bathurst. What a fantastic track, as if you didn't already know.
Probably going to run the McLaren and Vette this coming season. Might give the SRF another go as it feels really good on the latest tire model.
