Hey, I did this once. Just fat fingered the shifter and it slotted in gear with a couple seconds to go. I hit the brakes and waited there for the start, then made my stop at the first chance. As I was driving around though, I thought to myself, why not just keep on driving the second you realise you've jumped the start, even if it was by a considerable margin? Is there any greater penalty that comes down on you?
You know, I've never looked in to it but maybe they black flag you completely?
I was in a Google hangout with a friend of mine and was distracted, my only excuse..
2nd LRP race of the day, I pissed away a sure win by changing my line in Turn 1 to a more outside/in approach, ended up on the off camber bit and off in to the grass, followed by over the cliff, static and 95 second tow. From lap 10 on, I ran back around the field and finished 3rd. 1 Incident point, and my SR/IR continue to recover.
Brent Cummings, in 3rd when I came around to pass him, hung in there a bit but I was gaining quick (my "wrong", per Wallhugger ) line paying off big time, and as we came around the final turn on lap 17 he just jumped out of the way. I called him a gentleman, and he responded with, "No worries eh, you were faster, I got no problems with that!". Looked up profile - confirmed, Canadian.

The earlier you jump the start the longer your penalty is when you stop.

But, given that you rolled a couple of feet to jump the start by say, 2 seconds, does it make any difference if you just gun it and get going around the track, rather than stop the roll and wait for green?
Re: 2013 Season 2 | April 30 - July 22
Sorry, I wasn't quite clear. If you jump and take off early it gives you a big penalty, but I think if you stop and wait for the green it doesn't ding you as bad. It's probably based on the distance traveled before the green flag flies.

That's good. I wondered if I was being a sucker by waiting.

What wrong per me are you talking about lol.
Sorry about bein a know it all that night. I had just done a track day there May 30th, and it's kinda messed up that what you learn doesn't work in the game on parts of the track (besides the fact the track was fixed almost 3 years ago). I just can't believe the Skip would be that unforgiving in real life with nice warm tires. And maybe I'm basing everything off of the SM. That car just holds. The guys at iracing should do one of those. Get rid of the Solstice and the Roadster and make a SM that more real people drive than alot of the other useless junk. That would be a test fer sher. It outcorners almost everything else out there. And on short tracks like Limerock, it pisses off the Porsche guys cuz they can't stay in front of it except on the straight.
Anyway, the only spot I saw you losing any real time was the last turn. Maybe time's the wrong term...speed. No need to brake. I'm sure I said other stuff though, so next time just tell me to put a cork innit

lol I'm just playin' Tracy. You'd mentioned to me that you reckoned I could gain a little time if I widened by entrance to turn 1. On like Lap 10 of that race, I heard "Trust your feelings, HWK..." and thought "... Ben? I mean, Tracey?", but I put away my targetting computer and bullseyed a Womprat in my T-16 back home. By which I mean, drove right off the track in to a ditch, got the static fuzz and auto-tow back to the pits.
What.. did I just write?
On the last turn, I always lift a little bit, bring the car in line with the apex and get back on the throttle. If I don't, I end up either: Understeering off the track, or hopping the curb and killing myself.
Turn 1 is far and away the trickiest one on the track, and I think where the most time to be gained lives.

So anyway, the GT Cup series is heating up after a slow start. I'm currently leading the Solstice points quietly (thought I'd mention it now because it won't last once the 5-7K IR monsters, and the drops start kicking in). G44 pointing out his tab key/split time discovery at the beginning of the season sure has helped me gain some serious speed and consistency. I may have a shot at hanging on to a podium at the end, but It'll be tough, that's for sure. After this season, things are changing for me it looks like , so I won't be able to run as much starting in late summer. I figured it's now or never for chasing points, but a 4100 IR just doesn't appear to be quite high enough. Hope Y'all are doing well.

Congrats on finding the top of the charts! Points game you have to play (and IR needed) to have a crack at winning is awkward at best. High IR guys don't need a field to make huge points. Those on the other end of the scale, not only need the high SOF field to make points, you gotta beat em all too. Not that needing to beat them is a bad thing, its just the reward for actually racing well against an excellent SOF can be easily out done by a high IR dude running by himself. That needs fixed. Rules as they are work well until you throw in the multi class fields. I'm not in a position that it matters anyway, but it still doesn't sit well with me.

Limping across the finish line to my C-Class license. Last race at Suzuka was one of my worst in ... forever. Too much g'damn travelling and not enough practice time. First time I've failed to gain positions since I started playing seriously again. Suzuka is a tough track, not necessarily to race on, but to pass even markedly slower cars on. My own stupid fault, but a -0.28 SR loss was a fun wakeup call.
Re: 2013 Season 2 | April 30 - July 22
Trying to decide if 1'41.6 with a 1'40.8 optimal at Legume-ah-sega in the Skippy is or . Seeing 1'38s is depressing. The difference between the 1'43 and 1'41 guys is pretty much just down to "how do you take the final hairpin?" which is hilarious.
Re: 2013 Season 2 | April 30 - July 22
I'm desperately trying to put an iRacing championship trophy on the DSO mantle. I just scored 200 points at Watkins Glen, my best points total ever. A few weeks ago, I decided to change my season strategy and run early in the week, instead of the weekend. That has produced point totals of 200, 176, 161, 152, and 154 the last five weeks. Loginov should have passed me about 3 weeks ago, he must be thinking "man, this dude doesn't realize he's slower than me", lol. I've got 1228 to his 1134, but he's only got 7 scores tallied, so he'll pass me as soon as he turns the key this week most likely. If he scores 150ish or lower though I may have a slim shot at him because I have a 132 and a 118 to drop. Paul clarke2 is lurking in 3rd place at 1029 with only 7 scores counted, so he could still pass me as well, but I'm trying to make it not so easy. Happy Independence Day !!

Noice. How does running early week help? I would guess thinner/less-practiced fields to get some Ws in.

Points will come from higher strengths of field, so can't just avoid competition for the points. Awesome stuff, Rooster, good luck!
Re: 2013 Season 2 | April 30 - July 22
Thanks HWK ! Yeah, I was busting my ass on the weekends, winning like 6 races per week and scoring like 105-120 pts. It was hard to even catch an official race early on. A few weeks ago , two really good drivers told me they were dodging me (which I think makes no sense), so I started practicing on the weekend , and pouncing on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday night. That has paid off, but I think I needed to change it up earlier. Normally , I wouldn't care too much, but I don't have another points run in my near future.HWKII wrote:clacksman wrote:Rooster722 wrote:I'm desperately trying to put an iRacing championship trophy on the DSO mantle. Not logically, but then I read that drivers were dodging Rooster ...

Well, if you're in a high SOF race with Rooster and you're worried about him beating you,you might be better off rollingthe dice on a high SOF race without him. You also potentially deny him an even higher SOF where a 2nd place in a high SOF race might be better than him winning a race without you in it...
Just typing that out, iRacing championships are a shell game.

I've been trying to race the MP4, but it's been a pretty long run of bad luck. The thing about racing at C or above is that there's no quick repair, so if you wreck you do serious time in the pit stall. I'm down about 600iR this season from a lot of limp home finishes.
Some of it's been my fault, a slim majority have been the fault of others. Even filed a protest on one guy. I need to tighten up here pretty soon.

Hey Stephen,
I did notice you'd been running the MP4 while I was absent for 2 months and saw how your ratings had been affected. The MP4 was going to be my main focus for this 2nd season, before I went AWOL, but I have just come back to it in the last couple of weeks. I struggled for pace to begin with, but picked up the Quali' setup from John Hille at the end of last week and it really helped (I then just increased the ride height as required for the race fuel load and added a touch of rear ARB and Wing for the race and it felt good). I found the setup made a big difference. I am basically sticking with it for Suzuka too, with a few minor tweaks as we go.
Hopefully we can hook up for some practice as the final few weeks roll on and maybe boost your ratings a little along the way.
@ Roo - Great to see the points racking up and I can see it's close at the top of the table now! Good luck!!

Thanks Nigel ! I'm havin' a blast today just thrashing the MX-5 at Watkins Glen. I haven't driven it last September, long before I replaced the old and worn out G25, and before I was finally able to resolve the corrupt controls.cfg file I didn't know I had. Now I can see why it's the car of choice in GT Cup, man it drives nice compared to the Solstice.

Was fun to get on track with you again Thomas, just a shame you got caught up in my incident in the last race taking a big hit. Hopefully we can hook up for some fun at a less 'drafty' track soon

Hey Nigel, no problem man it was damn fun while it lasted. Thanks for the Q help, twas fun running a mid 25 and starting closer to the front. We were set up for a great run there, but you can't count on anything in these 30 car fields. Fun chit it was.
