I found a second in my sleep, apparently, and now I can get the odd 3:56 in clear air at Spa in the SPF.
That Interlagos Turn 1.

Lap time doesn't mean nearly as much as consistency, but as usual, one brings the other.
Re: 2013 Season 2 | April 30 - July 22
I got my Road America times in to the 2'36 range but seeing people doing 2'32s is just flat out disheartening...
So much time to be gained/lost under braking there.

One second per mile isn't that much.

Well maybe if you were in iRacing for me to follow around and/or pass and not hold up too much, we wouldn't be having this problem...

In all seriousness though, I was finding 1 second a lap just in changing my braking point leading up to the long straights. I am still trying to mentally reconcile the "smooth and tender" Jackie Stewart approach with the "ze tires! zey do nutting!" approach of Lewis Hamilton. I am also re-adjusting to the Skippy after a couple of weeks in the rFactor version (WAYYYY harder to drive) and the Brabham.

Agreed with clacksman. Spa can trick you with how many seconds/mile you're losing to the faster ones, because of far fewer real corners/mile.
Jackie Stewart is super smooth and never looks out of shape, and when he's in his element is probably seeing the world as if it's in slow motion, however I imagine you'd look like this in the passenger seat

No specific advice on Road America, since I'm yet to have the pleasure of driving there.
Soon.

I generally assume that clacksman is making fun of me, which he is totally right to do

I agree though, Spa and other circuits like that are tough because there's plenty of time to be lost in relatively few corners followed by loooooooong straights. Every mistake on corner entry is multiplied 3 fold on corner exit. It was amazing to me how much time there was to be gained just from braking later.
Road America is like Murica's Spa, I am really liking it there. 0.8 seconds off an alien per mile is probably about right for me. 2.3% off the ultimate pace. It's all relative I guess though because it's disappointing to be 2.3% off the pace at Spa too, since I have so many hours under my belt there.

The blue button with the light will be the pit lane speed limiter. One of the left self centering toggles will be starter/ignition.
Rotaries will vary by car. Bias, ABS, Fuel Map, Engine Map on the MP4. Bias, FARB, RARB on the 79, etc.
Red buttons for canned messages I think.

kinda eyeing the iNdy 500 World Tour event this weekend. I'm no open wheel oval racer, but I had the ol'Dallara flat-out around the original squircle-track pretty well last night. I'll probably have to jump in to some official races this week to get a feel for the cautions and restarts though.

If anyone is going to run the iNdy 500 I stumbled across a valuable little nugget of info... the best baseline setup is the Charlotte Night setup, with 4th, 5th and 6th adjusted accordingly.

It does indeed, would be the Saturday running I'll be aiming for.

Got down to a 39.8 with Bram Venneman's Q setup. Tried his race setup and I think I like the Charlotte Road Night setup better for race trim.

Wrecked on lap 9, turn 2 after the first restart. Got run in to from behind by someone going flat out from mid pack, not aware of the fact that people jockeying for position might not be flat out.

Anyone up for some racing tonight? Skippy or SRF? Other? The Lotus 79 around Brands Hatch is brilliant, though I am not quite license eligible for the actual race.

Tried to get your attention at Phillip earlier and failed. Was looking for something to do since there seems to have been a mass exodus from the Grand Touring series.

So instead of racing I took my first time out in the Skip tonight. Ripping around the Island was a hoot! If GT stays dead, I may have to consider running the Skippy some. Tis a fickle beast, but at least tonight, I found it more enjoyable the the Spec (which I haven't run on the newest build).

Damn! Sorry I missed you. I hopped over to the SRF and ... Sonoma... you beauty!
Skippy around Phillip is a lot of run, but Sonoma is just incredible and the SRF allows me to continue my love affair with proper manual shifting. So good! Forgive another moment of droning on about 3 monitors, but ... it's a different game. I was one of those who felt like FOV needed to be compromised for the sake of racing, but after today, and being almost 1 second up on all of my previous records anywhere I took the car, I have to say... I was horribly wrong.
Find a way to set the FOV to the "right" value, with a distorted virtual rearview if need be, but do it. The realistic sense of speed is mind blowing.
