Went to the theater to see Rush. It's movie about some guys that race or something. It was really good. It's not too nerdy like Le Mans (which I was kinda hoping it would be), and it's not as lovey-dovey as Grand Prix. It does the best job of the three depicting the internal struggle of the ultra-competitive racing driver that pretends to ignore dangers of the sport, probably because it presents the conflict from the point of view of two very different characters. Multiple-protagonists are all the rage these days.
It's lots of good racing porn, but mostly all of a fairly dramatic style with lots of quick cuts, closeups and lots and lots of blurry things. I was left wanting a little pure, clean, sequential racing action to playout in a bit longer scenes, but it's not like the racing didn't look realistic. They did a good job of projecting that feeling of being in the zone as a driver where a lot of things go by really quickly, and most of it is a blur, but a few things will stand out and stick in your focus and stand out in your memory, like the curbing at an apex or a burst of sparks from another car.
Go see it if you haven't already. It's a good story and of course it's well directed, of course. Great acting IMO.

http://www.motorsportretro.com/ - Aussie operated. Good content. Think I've already shared that with you guys.clacksman wrote:TTAC, C/D, Autoblog. Am I missing anything that's good nearly every day?
http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/ - I think oppo is the hipster car guy hangout. The front page (jalopnik) is overrun by idiots and the cool kids have moved to back alley to hang out, run inside jokes, smoke and listen to bands you've never heard of. Seriously, they share music all the time and they usually think they're the only person in the world that listens to it. A lot of articles get promoted from Oppo to Jalopnik so if you want to try your hand at blogging on a big scale, all you need to do is ask for permission to post to Opposite lock.
Also in the Kinja universe is http://drive.jalopnik.com/ and http://kinja.roadandtrack.com/, but they aren't very prolific posters.
That's all I got. Sad, I know.

Aussie stuff usually annoys me too quickly but I'll try it. The only Gawker I have a use for is Deadspin. R&T has really gone to hell in a handbasket.Forgetful wrote:http://www.motorsportretro.com/ - Aussie operated. Good content. no just a cheap glass pitcher where the plastic lid goes inside the mouth and clips in. was holding the jug in my left and tried to put the lid in which overstressed he handle i guess.. two stitches in the palm right at the base of the ring and middle fingers.

My, finally, learning to drive continues:
Nice little 5mi stretch of road I discovered this weekend, just a few minutes up the freeway from my house. It doesn't lead anywhere useful, but it climbs through hills and has no traffic lights or speed bumps on it. Still driving on my learner's permit, aiming to grab my license ahead of my upcoming birthday. Yeah, it's my 30th... what of it?
I love my little E30, the 4 cylinder engine loves to rev and makes it so much fun to drive. Not the fastest car on the road by any stretch, and the gearing piiiiiiiiiisses me off, but the handling, oh the sweet, sweet handling.

Probably needed a cast to keep your middle finger nice and straight for a few days.Forgetful wrote:

Sellin' it. Hoping to get ~11k, but we'll see...clacksman wrote:wats the fate of the RX-8?
I took it to CarMax and they offered 8.5k as a trade-in, so that's my baseline. I don't think they really took the fresh engine into account though. Most 70k mile RX-8s on the market are within 10k-30k miles of needing a new engine, so if you just do online searches to figure out a market value, you don't really get the full story in this case.

Wankel powered Bugeye? Me likes There's a scratch built rotary beast (kinda reminds me of a crude Sports 2000) in this neck of the woods. Thing looks like an absolute terror to drive and sounds even wors better
